Apparently JPM and Ron Dennis havae come to terms, and Montoya has been released from the McLaren contract. Now that he is available, he will be testing a Dodge at Talladega on Monday, September 25.

Chip Ganassi ws quoted by AP as saying: "He's going to test tomorrow. After that, I don't know. I guess he'll go buy a motorhome."

Welcome to NASCAR, John Paul Montoyer (aka Bubba J).

Montoya will be taking baby steps at NASCAR's fastest track driving a car prepared for ARCA, a smaller midwest stock car series. The cars are a little slower than the NASCAR grand national cars. If he does well with the test, you may see John Bubba Paul Montoyer in a real NASCAR car on October 6 at Talledega.

Talledega, not a place to cut your teeth for the first time.

They've come to terms or does RD want Lewis to come in now? Is there a rule where they can only allow a certain number of drivers so they'd have to release some (i.e. JV) before putting another in?

I'll admit, if he races at Talledega, I'll TIVO it and watch as much of it as I can stand.

Chip Ganassi Racing are set on entering Juan Pablo Montoya into as many races as possible before the end of the 2006 NASCAR season, team owner Chip Ganassi said on Sunday.

"Everything is taken care of now, and he's going to test tomorrow in Talladega," team owner Chip Ganassi told reporters on Sunday.

"He's excited about it. We want to get him in as many races as we can the rest of the year, and if that's ARCA, Busch or Cup it really doesn't matter.

"Whatever presents itself at the time we're going to go after it. We're going to take it one step at a time.

"I don't think Talladega is a good place to start, but I think it presents itself tomorrow (Monday) very quickly, and it gets it out of the way."

"We're going to get in a testing program," added Ganassi. "I don't know if it's going to reward him much this season, but I think four or five races into next season he'll be happy we did it.

"We've been working on it for about two months, and we found out we were going to do it about two days ago," Ganassi said.

"It came down to if something was going to happen (this year) it needed to happen. Daytona is the first race of 2007, but you have to do a lot of testing in this system to learn other tracks, other procedures and that's what we want to expose him to."

Ganassi said he was surprised by the publicity surrounding Montoya's switch.

"Yeah, it's good," Ganassi said. "It's interesting. I'm happy for him. Next year is going to be a lot of fun. I'm sure there will be speed bumps along the way, but it'll be fun."

I've been reading a lot of the european racing press, and those guys love him, they said they are really going to miss him because he was the only driver with any sort of personality, everyone else is a 'tool'.

As far as ARCA goes, I followed it into the mid 90's, and unless they changed the rules, they used to be faster than Nextel Cup cars - the rules were identical - except ARCA allowed roller rocker arms, or a different type of camshaft, one of the two. Like I said, it's been 10 years. Maybe nascar twisted their arms to slow them down so they didn't show up the nascar series... JPM better get used to the brakes - or lack thereof.

I do not think Montoya has a worry. He is financially secure. He took delivery of an Azimut 86S (neighborhood of $5-6 million) while in Monaco, should be in Miami soon.

So even if he fails in NASCAR, he will be able to retire young and happy (meals).

I was reading todays new york times and it made no reference to his F1 career. I think if he starts his nascar life at talledega it should make for a fun race, I would expect him to be at the back struggling to keep up, with his lack of running stock cars on a superspeedway. Or he will be extremely aggressive and be mid pack and start the big one. Either way should make for some fun TV

I hope he does well - we may have to go to Texas Motor Speedway in '07 !!

    Montoya enters Talladega ARCA race

Juan Pablo Montoya will make his stock car racing debut in just over a week's time at Talladega Superspeedway, his team Chip Ganassi Racing announced today.

Montoya will drive the No. 4 Texaco/Havoline Dodge in the ARCA RE/MAX Series on Friday, October 6, in the Food World 250.

The Colombian, who announced last July he is switching to NASCAR racing and leaving Formula One, has been testing at Talladega this week with Ganassi for the first time.

And, speaking of his first experience around the tri-oval Talladega circuit, Montoya was ecstatic.

"It was like, oh my God!" he exclaimed, when asked to describe the experience. "I came out of the pits, and I went into Turns 3 and 4.

"I just went full throttle and went into it. It felt pretty quick; it moves a lot more than what I'm used to."

Chip Ganassi has made it clear he would like Montoya to enter as many races as possible this year, before embarking on his full Nextel Cup season next year, in the No. 42 Dodge charger.

As in acceleration or a loose tight kind of way. I find it hard to belive that the straight line speed, acceleration, braking, cornering, anything in those cars would superseed what he saw in F1 or cart
