Ace karts, sunshine is the best. Phillip island now have a great track too. There's Cheltenham and Clayton too, and Geelong, and probably a few others. I've only driven at Sunshine and Phillip island.
GEES.... 1 more day... Going to bond store tomorrow for 11am, check over and load onto tow truck... at last! Ship docked 12 days ago....
actually.. more like groundhog day... I spent the whole day on my back on concrete under that race car today... Knackered... Besides... the impending arrival of a 28 year old gas guzzling money pit and liability is hardly cause for celebration....
...at last, LAND AHOY!! connected battery and it started straight up. Not a fouled plug or any problem at all, other than the leaking accelerator pump diaphragms which I know about and have parts waiting for. Curiously, clutch fluid level down, yet no leak from slave or master cylinder at all... so pedal no good. Flushed and bled it all through in shop, all fine. Did a blockie..... Biggest frustration of all was the wooden crate with wooden furniture inside that came with it... there's been SO MUCH red tape with it, forms, faxes, phone calls, emails, etc etc etc... and then, when I go to get it all... they say... "Oh, is that yours, we haven't even inspected it... oh well, you're here now, may as well take it!!... Did I say I LOVE my Boxer.....?? Ah, nice car mate. Looks fricken fantastic actually. God I LOVE red Ferrari's. I love yellow also, but red is the best. When are we going for a drive FF?
Thanks, the pics make it look even better than it is. It's nice, but not concours. VERY original though, just needs some TLC on interior mainly. I'll be coming to Bathurst, and Eastern Creek, which is about as far up as I'll be going... meet you there?
Congrats Phil...And I can tell by the smile in the reflection in the last pic that your happy as Larry....
Thanks... actually it will be a bit lonely.. It came from www.theferraricentre.co.uk where they have over 100 Ferraris under their care, and it can't stay in my shop for long. Need the space for other stuff. Put it in my storage facility when ready.
why are these people at the beach in weather like this? http://media.theage.com.au/?rid=22850&sy=age&source=theage.com.au%2F&t=1NDCPG&ie=1&player=wm7&rate=660&flash=1
Phil, have you replaced / are you planning to replace the sodium exhaust valves? I'm soon to start that job, it breaks my heart to tear down a motor which is running perfectly. I've learned that my engine was rebuilt by DK Engineering (which I recall is your old shop) but as I don't know quite when they did it, they can't tell me if they changed the valves. Were the DK team particularly aware of the sodium valve issue in your experience? Congrats on getting your car here, bet you can't wait to get along to your local motor registry and hand the state government another wedge of cash for nothing...
thanks guys.. err..... yes, of course there are oil leaks... it's a Ferrari with more than a dozen oil seals and several hoses/pipes etc etc. None that cause puddles or any reason to fail a roadworthy though. errr.."sweeeet" ain't a term usually said regarding a Boxer... but thanks anyway... it's great to have it here at last. yes, I need to do the sodium valves at some point sooner rather than later, but I'll drive it a while anyway for a few months. I might get unlucky , and I might not.... but I'd recommend anyone else to get it done if it affects their sleep, but it won't mine. When the workshop slows down a bit, maybe I'll do it then, but right now it'd be unfair on customers to queue jump my own car. When did DK do which engine? I was there 98 to 2000. But yes, all Ferrari specialists have known about the sodium valve problem since the late 80's. The ONLY cars that'll have been rebuilt with sodium valves will be cars built by dealers using new , old stock parts... a rare case where having dealer service/repair history is a definite negative thing. FWIW, I get valves made which have a much better profile than std ones, as well as having solid stems.
