Well.. I did it! I met the man himself at GT Parts today! During my lunch break I took a drive to GT Parts (a few) miles away to meet Jon (here for Barrett-Jackson). I just wanted to shake the hand of the Man who is showing us all what true dedication and passion is all about.

    What an honor! Thanks Jon.

No Pietro, it was a bigger honor meeting you. You have one of the best GT's on the planet and a great history to go with it.

Back to work tomorrow. Had my fill of muscle cars. They did have one cool vehicle there (see photo). The highlight was going to Gt Parts and meeting Bill, seeing his shop and assemblying an order for me. He has everything there. I also got to meet Pietro. After he left I was kicking myself for not inviting myself over to see his fabulous Silver GT. I then went and saw Bob Wallace of Lamborghini fame, test driver and chief engineer during the development of the Miura. I got a date in mid april to bring my Miura engine in for a rebuild and all his upgrades he does to them.

John- you might want to check those breather hoses. I bought what looks to be the same ones and they are a bit too large to fit into the holding rings on the air box for the carbs. They are also too narrow to fit easily on the alum t shaped connectors that connect to the oil fill spouts. I had a tough time working on mine. I suspect all of these hoses come from the same source. I checked them against the originals (which I kept) and the difference is notable. It may seem like a small thing but it will drive you crazy. Hopefully you have the right ones!!

I agree…. Having GT Parts near by is a blessing! Anytime you are back in town I will gladly show you the Dino. If you make it back in April (to drop off the Miura Engine), try to time it with our Concorso Arizona (April 14th). It is shaping up to be quite the event. http://www.ferrariaz.com/concorso2007/concorso2007.htm

    Cheers,

For the "narrow" hoses being too tight to slip on the fittings, you can use a small amount of liquid soap in the I.D. to facilitate slipping it on. Don't use a petroleum based product as it may act as a solvent.

While many of the correct hoses can be sourced at German car shops (there are LOTS of VW aftermarket suppliers), whenever I need hoses that are non-standard, or in placed that people won't see so I might upgrade to silicon, etc, then I'd suggest contacting a specialist such as the Hose Man:

I've also found that shaving cream is great for this application and is easy to clean up given that most of it evaporates.

    Just a thought.

Today was an organization day. I kinda of took stock where I was, went through the bins to see what I was still missing. I've gone through 21 of 36 bins so far. I took photos of the completed bins then dumped in a pile all the part I've replaced or am not using. The body is next in line to be painted and some of this stuff I could actually put on the car. I ordered the interior from Luppe (spelling?) in Italy. Tan with black carpeting. Tan daytona seats with tan on tan stripes.

Jon, this is all really incredible. I bet you could Ebay al of those remnants for a decent sum....

Have you made a decision about what to do on the steering wheel?

    Fantastic yet surprizing!
It looks like you found an original, green clutch cable, I thought these were unobtanium, true?

I'm with Corbani on changing the steering wheel for driving. The factory Momo has a top portion that is farthest from any spoke so flexes during serious turns (I've seen several that were broken). In addition the diameter is very small for a comfortable grip. I went to the Momo Prototipo steering wheel for spirited driving, but if I want the proper one on then it only takes a few minutes to remove/swap them.

Amazing pile Jon. You forgot to sharpen IMG_3588 (carbs and fuel line) but all other pictures are great. See that the aluminum casting that holds alternator, air pump is in discard pile as is AC compressor. What will you do with alternator and oil heat exchanger? Coming along real nice.

    1. On the Grey parts such as the carbs or intake manifold, what did you do to them ? they match so I am guessing paint or clear coat but I usually leave those glass beaded, yours looks better.

    2. Same question on the brake calipers Grey part, did you do something after cleaning.

    3. the Dino script on the brake calipers, where did you get it ? I was looking into something like that for mine but the local guy that was going to cut a stencil for me said it would not take the heat. I am thinking, having him cut a stencil and then using high temp black paint, looks like you did it already :)

The carbs, I used a product called carb renew. You can use it to suite your tastes from semi-transparent to a more opaque. I opted for the more opaque. The calipers were cad plated, no paint. The Dino script was done in Hi-Temp vinyl. No promises about that. A mask and hi-temp paint is probably better.

Jon, do you dream in Dino part numbers?

I see you chose French specification headlamps. You have style!

I am in great need of, and have been searching for the 14-mm fuel banjo fittings and bolts for my fuel filter canister (exact same as yours). I need both sides. Where did you find them? Are you around tomorrow? I may drive down.

I wonder where I got the idea for the French spec headlights. They look spectacular on your silver car. The banjo bolts aren't new just replated.
