Look at this old image: a red Ferrari and a house in the country. What more could a man want? Oops, you already have that Joe www.joesackey.com[/QUOTE] LOL, I think that's ocean in the distance. I'd have to settle for pond : (
If we're being pedantic (and obviously I am), the radio/cassette was a dealer fit option. As with 70s era Euro cars no factory fit radio. The "Car" magazine article about the factory pick-up features the new owner arriving with his box of cassettes and discovering no radio. I seem to recall, but I'm not certain that the "radio preparation" was the option. This gives the screen with aerial, and speakers with nice GTO logo on them. My car has both of these, but no radio actually fitted. Can anyone confirm whether this was standard or an option?
the car article says (Ron Stratton a UK Ferrari dealer bought a GTO for himself and invited Car magazine to come alone for the ride when he collected it)
pretty much yeah. the article in its entirity is reproduced in the book "The Story of the Supercar - from Miura to McLaren" which was sat on my desk when i read your post
yah never know . Oh and for the record these photos are from the net taken by a very talented gentleman.
Ever the historian, its good to have you around Thanks for sharing that. Check out this GTO going over the ramp at Concorso a few years ago and look how incognito it looks compared to the brash, in-your-face F40 in the second image... Yes it is true, I have seen pictures of the car. The following are the Brunei 288's 1) Red on Black, RHD 2) Color name INDIAN BLUE 3) Color name DARK SLATE with the normally black stripe painted RED also RHD 4) Black #57727 this is different from the Dark Slate car.
Post pics if you can. My understanding is that the Brunei 288s are 'Post-production Speciales' made with Pinninfarina's involvement. BTW they also made an F40 in dark slate with the center bodywork groove in red. Id love to see the Indian Blue one... Joe www.joesackey.com
Just thought I'd throw in a word about Bill Cosby's car. Last time I saw it (1+ years ago) it had 350 miles on it. Image Unavailable, Please Login

The original Press Release kit for the 288 GTO as handed out at the Geneva Salon March 1984... Note in the bottom image they referred to it as the 308 GTO. i said something about this a few months ago and people were reluctant to belive it. http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=146480 cheers joe, its nice to be finally proven right and even nicer to realise im not going mad
Anytime. I beleive it was the press that gave it the moniker "288" early on in production to distinguish from its ancestor when writing about it, But I actually remember it being referred to as 308 GTO around the time of the car's launch... I thought that was well known. Oh well. Joe www.joesackey.com
Joe, of the 4 test cars, one survived. Was sold, sent back to the factory and apinted Giallo Fly. I'll fwd the pics to you to post as I am still computer-challanged w/this. H PM me youe e-mail address
Right you are sir. I think we have pics of it (chassis number 47649) at the start of this thread. BTW, this car is the ONLY single-mirror 288 known to me and it was that way as late as in 1994 when I saw it - tres cool. I noticed that when RM auctioned it off at Maranello recently, it had 'sprouted' another mirror on the passenger door! I seem to remember that it was the well-connected Ferrari dealer (Motor SrL Modena) 's personal car... he may have sold it in recent times though - I dont know. Someone told me Pininfarina painted this car, as it did the three Brunei colored cars and the one German car (in black), all done post-production, mind you. Of those 4 test cars one was actually carburetted! BTW the 288 was a racing driver's favorite with Keke Rosberg, Michele Alboreto and Niki Lauda and other F1 pilots taking delivery of new cars. Danny Sullivan thought it was the best street Ferrari he ever drove, but maybe he hadnt driven an F40 yet... LOL. I am told as many as half of them were picked up at Maranello and driven away by their hardcore enthusiast drivers so thats why so many of them still have their EE (Escusionisti Esteri) touring/export plates affixed to their front spoilers. Joe as I mentionned before Luigi B.'s estate here from Toronto had a 1Km car which was sold for 440K Euro at the recent Maranello auction. Are you saying this red one from your last post was also there for sale? I was under the impression only 2 288's were auctionned off with one being 47649 (SOLD 506K EURO)... EDIT: Just checked the results and I only found the 2.
You misunderstood, but yes just 2 cars, Luigi's former car and the yellow prototipo. Joe www.joesackey.com
