by pedro917, (Sint-Niklaas, Belgium) under copyright. During a tyre testing session a few weeks prior to the 1978 Belgian GP at Zolder, my brother, while taking photographs of his favorite driver Carlos Reutemann, suddenly witnessed the arrival of Gilles Villeneuve in the pitlane. This was Gilles' first visit to the circuit. Also present was Ferrari's engineer Mr. Tomaini. Lole explained the track to Gilles and later they set off for a reconnaisance lap around the circuit in an Audi 100, Reutemann driving, Mr. Tomaini in the passengers' seat and Gilles in the back. If only Gilles would have known.... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

Post #3400 is Eugenio Castellotti, of course; in the 1956 Italian GP at Monza where he retired with a tyre failure which broke his steering. The tyres were marginal, and Fangio urged Musso and Castellotti to take it easy and save their racing until near the end, but Italian honour was at stake so they battled tooth-and-nail and wore out their first set of tyres in 5 laps! Ironically Fangio also had a broken steering arm, and famously Collins gave up his car, and his own chance of the WDC, to let Fangio finish 2nd and clinch his fourth WDC. Paul M

Here are a few pix of Tom Meade with the car that he (re)built for Bill Dixon, then of Seattle. The pix were taken in 1967, while Tom still had the car. Note that someone (Tom?) must have noticed the dangerous W/S configuration on 1777, and eliminated the wind wings and installed the W/S more vertically than in 1777. Ed, I may be late to this party but has been confirmed if the windshield is a 64 GTO or an LM. Although the GTO and LM windshields look similar I have not known if the are the same. And this Nembo looks the be the same as one of those. Jeff
Years from now, one of those photos will be used as proof postive that Tom's car was involved in a horrible winter accident that ripped the seats right out of the car. Fortunately, Tom was not injured as he is seen clearly in the photos examining the remains of the seat on the snowy roadside!
Hi Ed, Was the car in your pictures below definitely the Dixon car, or was this the car you bought from Meade in Modena in December 1967 and sold to Ron Tonkin? The Dixon car was definitely 3771GT while the Tonkin car that you previously owned was 1777GT.
Here's one that's a bit different. Copyright Bernard Cahier so please do not copy. Thanks Nathan Image Unavailable, Please Login
Jarrett: The burgundy car is 3771. It was intended as ---more or less---a clone of 1777, the original Nembo. The shorter WB dictated the W/S configuration, to some degree (oops, a pun slipped in), as well as the hood bump extending down onto the nose. It was built to order for Dixon, who had seen a pic of 1777 and wanted something similar. Dixon and I used to correspond during construction, as by then I had bought 1777 from Meade. As I have said elsewhere, 1777 originally was dark blue with a pumpkin interior, and in my opinion, infinitely prettier than it's current red. 3771 pix taken 12-67. I think, in Modena. Hope that answers all questions.
