After Targa Tasmania and Adelaide Hills Tarmac the 360 Challenge needed a refresh in several areas. The lower front ball joints had between 4.5mm and 5mm movement, the Ferrari part now recommends changing the entrire lower swing arm (approx 1255.00 USD), Hill Engineering supplied a better quality ball joint for 240.00 USD (10% Fchat discount). The new ones are far superior to the Ferrari ones, and we had a new one to compare with. We/I noticed a wobbling of steering wheel under braking and thought initially it was brakes or discs, once the new parts are on we will test and I firmly think the movement of the ball joint would create a vibration issue. The brake discs, well they have lasted quite some time but given the air duct for cooling allows stones, leaves, pieces of bitumen into the hub we noticed if the brakes were warm that they would billow blue smoke.....the pictures show the stones etc collected in the vanes of the disc thus cooling was non existent and anything like leaves and bitumen would get hot and in turn burn, thus problem two of the discs is now being attended to that we will put mesh over the duct and in future to remove the disc is a 15 minute operation thus we will clean the vanes each night and blow out the hubs with compressed air. The discs are brembo and cost a mint, Girodisc in the US do the same disc for 1250.00 for a pair which include bobbins and bolts for the floating effect. The clutch has lasted 6000+ km and being brass button its main wear is on traffic style take off, the cost of replacement clutch should come in at 200.00 including pressure plate. The sill panels will need some attention as the 3M has worn as well as the fibreglass, the first say 6 inches will have a aluminium coating rivited on. The pics show the discs with stones etc, the bobbins, calipers and other bits. Once togther we will continue to run blue pagids and possibly try yellow pagids. The rears are still new as in disc and we measured the pad wear on the front and 4mm is the loss considering that we have done 3x classic adel, 1.25 targa tas, 3 adel hills tarmac and several track days at Mallala. As it comes together I will post more pics. Great thread! $200 for a new clutch? Wowzers That is stupidly expensive Mates rates? Or brass buttons that simple they can be replaced by any clutch specialist?
Nice. I've got Brembos on my bike, they stop on a dime and are far superior to the standard Jap bike issue. They should allow bikes in the Targa! It could rival the IOM TT !!
Brass button are cheaper to rebuild/ replace.........getting a price from Ferrari who dont make clutches..........way way too expensive
I popped in to see the poor 360 all in bits today. The ball joints surprised me, the new pieces d'origine Ferrari one having about 0.5mm of axial play, the Hill Engineering ones having none. Strange tolerances for the genuine parts. It really is intersting to see the car in pieces though, obviously quite different to my old vanilla cars. The cast aluminium chassis really is a neat piece of art, and everything just fits in nicely. Also the question was answered as to why the brakes usually smoked at the end of the original (long) Wickhams Hill stage now, that is quite a dirty stage as far as leaves go with a good number of overhanging trees, they would literally have been hoovered off the road straight onto the hot discs through the open (and to me ingeniously designed) track oriented cooling ducts.
Simon, it is a track car, never designed for road use and impossible to complete a targa tas.........and our trophies arrive when?
was it him that said it? but it only completed the event this year cos it was "his baby".......pigs arse, that knucklehead botched up more than one could mention........thankfully I have staff who know what they are doing
Thanks Pap, more pics to come, I should put up pics of what that idiot pom did with the alternator.........but it was his baby, what a complete turd.
use phil viola's name and have someone hang up on you he now has a thread running on AE, must be a problem that occurs in June for ball joints........funny thing is I reckon only one person has a 360 on there the rest are no bigger than 1:18 scale
doing an enquiry about AP racing for the discs........pagid yellows seem to be the choice and keep the blues and blacks for emergency spares
the cause of the brake issues.......the front ducts (carbon fibre) has been patched by someone who used duct tape....wtf, we have just done them in glass after getting the carbon fibre to the point of getting the glass to stick. And why didnt I buy new ones..........958.00 USD each for a duct Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
the swing arm and ball joint well we can see now why Ferrari sell the ball joint and swing arm as one, the aluminium that the ball joint fits in can and has stretched over time thus a compound needs to added to firmly put the ball joint in properly. The brake ducts now have custom mesh over them and anything that can fit through will in turn fit through the brake vanes. This car has in a sense been made over time to be "rally-esque" hence if I ever get a 430ch at least I know what needs to be done before it heads to the street. This is not to say I will get a 430ch (albeit quicker and faster) but I just dont like the look of the car Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
