Maybe using the example of AMG and M cars is too extreme but both Maserati and Rapide would have to shy away from any confrontation on that two lane switching to one lane road against many mass production family sedans or even SUVs and personally I find it unacceptable in a $200k car or even $140k "sports car".
A shame that is,since both these cars are absolutely breathtaking visually....

I owned a CL65 - the car dropped 130k in two years - IMO those turbo's scared the average buyer. The car was too straight line fast and the rocket torque was just stupid.

The 612 has been amazingly solid, it was a proven engine that got a little tweaking. At 540 hp I missed the CL65 at first but after a year of the 612, I would not ever buy a torque jerker again.

Porsche has been doing the little tweaking for years and it keeps costs down and I believe it helps retain value.

The body changes in Ferrari every five years is too costly to compete with daily drivers.

IMO - daily drivers top out at 175k

I suppose your concept of "mass production family sedan" must be a bit different than mine, lol! Surely a V12 Aston with nigh-on 500hp wouldn't be smoked at the lights by an Accord or Camry?

I agree that the Maser seems a bit under-gunned on paper when compared to some of the mad machinery available today, but I don't think people buy it to drag race. It wasn't meant to be a "sports car" as you say, it's a classic GT car, elegant, beautiful, comfortable, and capable of wafting its owner from the French Riviera to Monaco with the greatest of ease.

I do conclusively agree with you on one point: the Maser is a stunner, easily one of the top 3 most classically beautiful cars made since the '60s, IMO. If I'd the money, I'd have a pearl white Gran Cabrio with saddle interior for going to fine restaurants and weekend cruising, and a Radical or Ariel Atom for when I wanted to go really fast.

By mass production cars I meant MB E550,BMW 550i,S600,Audi A8 W12 and many others ,all of them cheaper or at similar price as Maser and way below the Aston.
You don't buy these cars for their beauty alone, do you?
Btw,personally I like the Maserati so much that I almost bought one and planned to "Novitec" the car to fix my performance issues with it.
In the end simple economics prevailed and I ended up with S63 TT as my new daily driver.
But I still am wondering sometimes, what if....

Fair point about the sedans listed above, I guess I took you too literally! ;)

One question I have: Do you mean S65 TT, or have they released the new (5.5 litre despite the name) "63" TT V8 in the S class? I thought it was only in the new CLS63 AMG so far.

That video is so cool, it really is one of the main reasons I love this car

That car is gorgeous, the color too, it really fits well. I can see now what people were saying about the headlights, they have their own bespoke look. My excitement for this car seems to be never ending!! I absolutely love it

CAR Magazine Online published a design study for the FF that my son Daniel prepared. Two variants were designed that would provide Ferrari with three distinctly different models to offer based upon the basic FF. The "M" model is a 2+2 and the "GT" model is a two placer based upon the 250 GT SWB Berlinetta from 1961. You may leave comments on the CAR Magazine Online comment section below the article. Here isthe link to the article. We also shared these designs with Flavio Manzoni at Ferrari to see what he thinks about extending the FF into a series of models for different design tastes and lifestyles.

I think the FF GT rendering would be quite plausible seeing as Ferrari like to stretch out a good production run ever now and then. I'd love to see it become a reality!

The FF is for folks who buy anything Ferrari and there are those who will. For me, I just can't believe Ferrari has spent the last 50 years developing an image for this. I like their 4 passenger cars, but this is just a pathetic attempt to follow the trend instead of leading the way.

If I want a 4 passenger vehicle to go through snowy, crappy weather, I'm not thinking Ferrari. Additionally, when I think about driving in snow and ice I'm not thinking I need 600HP.

Really the negativity is extraordinary. Ferrari is not in the buisness of producing posters for teenagers. It has evolved over 50 years by learning and adjusting to it's clients. Look at the other specialist marques that have fallen by the wayside or are a pastiche of their former selves.
Two themes , the transcontinental GT and the track focused sports car are updated for today's users in the FF and the 458. We in the USA have a a habit of revering cars, never driving and putting away wet, low mileage etc. Others (European ) use them as intended.
As a 458 owner I am seriously considering the FF for my Four Corners needs. I will be Maranello Tuesday night for the premiere making a considered judgement not speculating.

I have it under good authority that the evolution of Ferrari is heading in the direction of its parent company, VW, and that the series concept is in fact a concept that Ferrari will likely move on, if not with the FF, then with an upcoming design. The influence coming down the pipe is significant and consistent. Enjoy the reveal of the FF, the follow-ons are already in the works. You may want to wait six months before you order so you have the chance to invest in the model that will provide you with the most smiles for the miles. Consider this, the Dino is already in the works.

Ferrari's parent company is Fiat. You might want to confirm that with your "good authority". ;)

    All the best,
    Andrew.

I meant FIAT, the designer of the FF is from VW. My apologies. Fix It Again Tony!
