If you'll read between the lines you'll find you're stating my point exactly!

    So we agree 100%!

The cars that were "factory converted" were given genuine thicker-gauge chassis (as I stated in my earlier post), without which they could not possibly become SVs.

But they were FULLY converted into SVs, not partially, and thats the only way they can be referred to as an SV.

Some cars were "factory converted" by the simple expedient of lifting the old chassis number onto a completely new waiting-to-be-assigned SV :)

So what do they mean by rebuilding front and rear chassis here?

Apologies, Joe. I understand now and misinterpreted your earlier post and thought that the existing chassis would have been used which would be impossible to upgrade to SV specification regarding the gauge steel used. In short, it is simply not possible to CONVERT a P400 or P400S to 100% P400SV specification.

Exactly, you'd have to replace the whole chassis for starters, and the factory realized this themselves and would simply put the old ID plate onto the new SV waiting to be identified.

    But don't tell anybody :)

    Not sure.

Again, this will make a fine car for somebody, it just would be a tragedy if an uninitiated person thought he was getting a genuine SV, thats all.

Also, I understand why the sellers want to stretch the SV linkage, and its for one simple reason: more money.

And yes, you ought to drive a real SV.

I'm not very good at reading between the lines, lol. I edited post 25 to include one of the main reasons why I think a GENUINE SV, originally manufactured as an SV, is far superior to the earlier cars.

The early P400 cars (about 100) were built from 0.70mm steel. Afterwards they switched to 1.00mm steel.

Joe is right that an SV has many differences from the earlier cars but their still basically the same.

Yes the overall concept is the same, and the changes are a matter of details & components. But once you drive the cars back-to-back often enough, the harder you push the more apparent the handling differences become. So too, the SV's chassis I believe has much superior longevity, rigidity aside.

First 125 cars chassis were made in 0.9mm gauge steel and after that 1mm. The SV had a thicker gauge steel again.

    Well stated.

FWIW an SV owner reading all this stuff who also has a P400 says: "I can run like Usain Bolt. Basically..."

I agree with bb4635 then. Stamp "750" designates the 650th car built which was 4906, so this actually further clods the issue and does not correspond with either 4956 or 5100 as claimed by the sellers.

How can a conversion be legitimate?
