To complement the thread in the 612/599 section here are some pictures I have taken of My Dad's 250 SWB. The colour is Celeste ardenzza (think that's the right spelling) and is the original colour of the car per the factory build sheets, although it has also been dark blue and rosso corsa. First owner was Lord Portman and prior to Dad's ownership it was in the Matsuda collection in Japan.

Dad had the bodywork restored by Moto technique in the winter of 1996/97 at which time the engine was rebuilt by Vince Mezzullo. Having hardly been run in 14 years prior to the rebuild after one brief test drive the car was driven to Rome and back for the 50th anniversary without missing a beat. It has run faultlessly for a further 14,000 miles since then.

Steel think it was the 10th rhd built out of 13. 10 rhd went to the UK others to Australia and South Africa correct? I'm sure someone will correct me on this)

From the research Dad has done, the car has some limited club level racing history, but has spent most of it's life as a touring car. One previous owner recounted a story of driving to Maranello in the car and being Buzzed by Mike Parkes testing the new 330P4 on the autostrada!!!! well in excess of the speed limit. A bottle of champagne burst inside the 250 during the avoiding swerve causing the owners wife to be "not amused."

Incidentally Lord Portman ordered its replacement 275GTB as a steel bodied car, but Ferrari "accidentally" delivered it with an alloy body. I believe that car is for sale.

Thanks Jonathan great pics. As the weather forecast is looking a lot more favourable for Goodwood on Sunday,I'm certainly going to give the Daytona a run down there. Not sure if Dad can make it. If you take any pictures of the Daytona (think you know which one it is) please post them, your photography is way better than mine :)

    Thanks.

Matthew, if it's there I'll get pics of it!!!! IIRC last time (for the Italian day) you were in the overflow field. I still spotted the Daytona parked there, though.

    Jonathan

PS. I hope you're right about the weather. Different forecasts seem to be saying different things. I'll be there rain or shine though

    Hello Matt

I do not think that Portman actually ordered the 275 GTB as steel, it just happened to come in alloy. Also he had a 330 2+2 and a Lusso in between the SWB and the 275.

As you know, I have the car for sale, see my web site www.markshannon.net or go to:

    http://www.anamera.com/en/detail/car/8855/index.html?no_cache=1&tx_anamerashowroom_pi1%5Bpointer%5D=-4&tx_anamerashowroom_pi1%5BFILTER%5D%5Bmake%5D=5&tx_anamerashowroom_pi1%5BFILTER%5D%5Bmodel%5D=455&tx_anamerashowroom_pi1%5BRET%5D=63&tx_anamerashowroom_pi1%5BMODE%5D=make

    for other pictures.

It will be at Silverstone during the Ferrari Racing Days.

What wonderful photos, and my congratulations to your dad! I saw a 250 GT SWB for the first time in the flesh at the Shell Historic Challenge 2007 round recently held at the Virginia International Raceway. I fell in love with the car, and it now ranks at the top of my Ferrari want list. Your fathers 250 SWB is absolutely beautiful!

yes, a picture of all three would be very interesting.
i've had a hard time trying to determine whether the styling of the 599 is more closely linked SWB or the Daytona. very beautiful cars.
your Dad has great taste and you're a lucky guy. it is great to see that you are genuinely interested in them.

One thing that is obvious when you see them close together is how physically big the 599 is. It seems to be almost twice the size of the 250! Then I suppose the engine is twice the size and produces more than twice the horsepower!

Actually the garage has a potted view of the Ferrari Berlinetta through the generations. Took these yesterday. Daytona is Ch 16763, Dad brought it in 1975, his first Ferrari, when due to the oil crisis you couldn't give them away. It was first registered in September 1973 the same month I was born, (I inherited half of it on my 30th birthday). Dad first used it as his every day company car!

GTC/4 is a new acquisition (the 22nd Ferrari he has owned) don't know the chassis number. Strangely while the Daytona is the better looking car in reality, the C4 always seems slightly more photogenic IMO.
