I bought this (i think this is the one). Can I control everything from the stock radio? Also, I'm planning on putting a 5th generation Ipod in the compartment next to the shifter if I cant control from the radio. Already measured it, should fit perfectly. If I go that route, i'll provide pics of the layout. No serious mods, I want to be able to always change back to stock later

I think all you can do with the stock radio up to 6105 is charge and get audio. If that Becker unit does allow the radio to control the Ipod I really want to hear about it, like a Becker part number.

Looks like Dave was right. Easy to install, but all radio shows is "Aux". Have to use iPod itself for changing songs. Volume is controlled through head unit

beckerautosound.com. Price was around $100. Can probably find it cheaper somewhere else. I went this route becasue I thought track changing would be possible from head unit---I was incorrect

How did you bring the cord out from the back of the radio to hook it up with the Ipod?

Just take out ash tray. It is simple. You can feed the conneector underneath so it comes out behind the ashtray or to the side (there is just enough room between the leather part of the tunnel and the carpet-you have to pull the leather part up a bit). I am just trying to deciide whether or not to drill a small hole in the plastic compartment next to the stick shift so that ipod can rest in there. That is why I got an older nano ipod, it should fit perfectly. The plastic compartment can always be replaced later if wanted with a new one (it is $36.65 from Ricambi). See here:

I just bought one of the tape deck adapters for $20 at Best Buy and works great. I just pull the tape out and throw it in the glove box when not in use.

I bought one of the tape adapters too, hoping it would work. But it didn't because I have to close the radio face panel, otherwise the radio doesn't work. And you can't close the face panel with a wire sticking out. How did you solve that? My tape player is under the face panel of the radio. Thanks. Frank

I had no problem closing the faceplate with my tape deck/I-pod interface inserted. The wire is thin enough to squeeze between the space.

Remove screw inside ashtray, and disconnect wires. Inside that hole there is one screw on left and right side of tunnel (phillips head). Remove those. Unscrew shifter knob. Unscrew four screws around gated shifter plate. After that, whole tunnel pretty much lifts out with radio and all. Then unscrew from underneath the six screws (phillips head) holding the tray in place. After that it is free to modify. Whole thing takes 20 minutes. I used a box cutter knife to cut out the slot and some 100 grit sandpaper to smooth the surface. I it looks pretty sweet. Can always be changed back as I said before for around 40 bucks and 20 minutes work. Sounds great too (I connecte my old, big ipod). New Ipod should be here tomorrow, and I'll post a final pic. Sorry about the pic quality, the are from a phone

Best part, no more squirrelly CD player that skips over every small bump in the road, and acts oddly when changing CDs. I know....I should listen to the engine. Now and then its nice to hear your favorite song while driving your favorite automobile

I had a similar product about ten years ago that did not sound to good through the radio using an iPod mini. But if it works, and sounds good, that is a much easier option. I just think the hard wire probably sounds better

The iTrip works OK for my purposes. I'll use it maybe once a month.

It looks like the panel flips down for access to the HVAC panel.

Yes, the hard-wired iPod will sound better than the iTrip. In the 550, the antenna in the upper part of the rear windshield is close enough to the iPod (I keep mine where you do) to give good FM reception. At best, it sounds like a local FM radio station.
