Hello I been looking for some comparrison/idea to the differences between the SV, VT etc... but cant find anything. I just want to know the differences between the VT, SV, GT, SE models compare to that of the Diablo (with no VT etc attached to it... this does exist right as the letters indicated special cars?). And wanting a diablo to customize myself... which one is the best to get? Were the VT SV GT SE and Diablo cars different in terms of body size/shape (more round etc)? Why were some of them heavier than others and can they all be made the same weight? Was there mechanical differences between them that could be added/changed on a standard diablo if the stndard diablois best to get if a customized one is the idea? Just trying to work out which one I should be having in my mind to buy with what I plan to do with it. I dont care for roadster version, just hardtops
THanks for the link... To my understanding of everything written about it... Dimensions etc were the same, same wheel base, same front/rear track etc etc. Th only differences were the front bumpers, mounting of te rear light things (rear bumper etc) And the other differences are, bigger wheels (18 not 17), and mechanical differences with a slightly modified dash and seats. More HP in some over the others due to different engine system etc, VT was AWD (or was it 4wd) not RWD. Which means physicaly there all the same they just perform better than others depending on which model... So that to me means, the SV, VT etc stands for 'better options' 'better engine' etc, not the car itself. So if i want to modify my lamborghini to make 700bhp not the 510 or 530bhp, then theres no point spending all the extra $$$ for a "sv" badged car or a "vt" badged car, let alone a "Gt" badged car. I can get "Diablo". Stick a carbon fibre body on it (so its like the GT), stick my 700hp worked engine in it, better gearbox and brakes and I got a 'better' overall performing car for less $. Obviously I dont have the 'factory' badge on it which = value on car. So for me it seems im best of with a standard Diablo and then doing what I want to that to make it an SV or GT or whatever as it would cost me less to do it and do what i want than paying all that extra for a GT/SV etc badge that id change making the badges mean nothing and decreasing the value of the car. I got that right?
no. The other post was to do with Diablo in general for me to work out whether I wanted one or not. This post is to do with model specific between the SV VT etc cause I know I do want one. Gezzz yourself
Just buy a Diablo that you like and if its not fast enough for you then put a turbo or 2 on there , I know it only has 500 HP from the factory but you will quickly learn that when you have your Diablo that it allready is a un-tamed animal from the start, what surprises me is all these cars going with the huge dollar upgrades to run over 200mph ,when the little Devil runs that stock , do a exhaust upgrade + you are really flying.
Thanks Champ I guess I was just wondering what the cheapest alternative would be. Buy an SV and 'tinker' with that (no longer an SV then), or, buy a plain diablo and turn it into an SV by tinkering with it (add the better brakes, work the engine that bit more to give it more HP etc). Once again, coming from the "muscle car world", my understanding is as follows I can buy a 69 Charger with a mere 318ci engine in it. WIth this car there is no problem in modifying (take engine out, drop a Hemi in it, pull the auto out, stick a 5 speed in it, take the old drums off and stick high performance discs on, take the leaf springs out and Torsion bars and add coil-overs) On other hand I can buy a 69 Charger R/T. Thing is, I would be crazy to modify in any way the R/T as thats the special valuable model car. The 318 on the other hand is just a base model, so it doesnt matter what I do to it, infact, buying an original matching numbers RT would be more expensive than me buying the 318 and then taking the engine out uting a hemi in and taking the gearbox out and putting in a 5 speed. So the 318 now with Hemi 5 speed would be a 'much better performing' car than the Matching numbers R/T and cost the same amount (so i got a better car for same price), difference is, it doesnt have the RT value in it. So I wondered if SV/VT/GT etc was prety much the same concept from the "Diablo", as in, buy the diablo and turn it into something quiker/better than the SV would cost less than buying the SV it just wouldnt have the value in it of the SV. So id have a better lambo for the same money just not have the same value. I dont like modifying special model cars, thats why in the muscle car world I never went for the special SS model cars or the R/T model cars, I always went for the base model. 1: its the cheapest model to buy, 2: I knew id modify it and I dont want to modify a matching numnbers valuable model car as its not fair on myself (spend all that money for special model to just change it) and not fair if I ever sold it to the consumer as its lost its originality. So I just dont do that. So if VT SV GT etc is the same concept, then that leaves me with the standard base model Diablo and play with that without feeling like i modified a rare SV or something. Hence I asked. I know this is not muscle car world, but thats why I ask, so I can learn about these cars rather than being ignorant.
Dear Lamborghinisti, Gman, you only get one shot to make a first impression. Unfortunately, you really won't get much more help here. You come on to this board of Lamborghini owners and ask about taking a Diablo to an extreme level. You say you will can spend around $200K to make it fast. In fact, you give the impression money is no object for this project. You were taken seriously as this is within the realm of feasibility here. You then start going on and comparing a muscle car to a Lamborghini...and you keep pushing the comparison. This is a Lamborghini board....we don't care about muscle cars. Some owners here may have them and really love them. There are boards for their "other" passion. Now you come off saying..."well, I can't afford a Lamborghini Diablo right now...but I'll go for a Ferrari 355. Then you say "If" I buy some muscle car. A 355 is a great bargain but not even close in performance to a Diablo. If you had just come on here and been straight about asking about a Diablo, all would be willing to chime in. Now it's found out that you're just blowing smoke....it's not appreciated. I'm a very laid back guy and never get bent outta shape about things....but we put our effort in trying to help and don't like our time wasted. Shamile Freeze....Miami Vice!
I dont see where I have not been straight. Im not trying to compare lamborghini to muscle cars as there is nothing to compare, obviously, im not that retarded to not know that. The reason why I always refered to a muscle car is to help me have some point of contact/understanding to understand these cars better. As I said R/T Charger (yes its nothing to do with diablo) But if the concept is the same (Yes SV etc is the better version diablo) than I can say "aha like the Rt is the more vlauable version of the charger, cool, understand). Since thats all I know thats all I have in my understanding so to me its more a case of point of reference in a very general sense rather than "im trying to compare a diablo to a muscle car"... yeah as if. And the Diablo im looking at buying within the next 24 months. As stated before, If Diablo was not the car I wanted, I would not sell my complete original muscle car which is extremelly rare to find one like the one I got. So I needed to know about a lamborghini and why I would be getting one before I went and sold my all original muscle car to go into the exotic world. Considering I have already made the decision that yes Id love to own a Diablo, I wanted to know what Model specific I would be looking at (hence the SV VT etc, or just plane DIablo considering I wanna upgrade the engine etc, so as a point of reference i refered to a "RT" charger to understand if thats how SV etc worked, better version, rather than trying to compare an exotic to a muscle car) So by knowing, I have a goal ahead of me, a knowledge of the car im buying, a goal to work towards. Why the F355? Cause I can get that pretty much now. So to me it was a matter of sell muscle to drive exotic before I own Diablo. Obviously the Exotic Ferrari is a lot closer to the style of car I want than a muscle car. However I wouldnt sell the muscle car if I wasnt sure I wanted an exotic. So the Ferrari is just a 'now' car that I can replace the muscle car with till I buy the DIablo that i trully do want and will have the ,means for within 24 months. So have I been not straight? I dont thinkso. I just needed to know before I went and made a rash decision like sell the muscle car to get the ferrari, to then buy the diablo to then say "i shouldnt of sold my muscle car, this is not what i imagined" and thus having lost the rare car that I do have and not ever being able to have one quite like it. So it was extremelly important for me to know now. Because I have had some help on here, my Charger I get back next week. Its going on sale. This is why I wanted to get as much info loaded into my head so I can stick the Charger on sale as soon as I get it back, or, whether it was never going on sale because the Diablo is not what I thought/really wanted. Hence I was trying to pump out as much info as I could from you guys who also were not born with a knowledge of these cars when you started, you had to learn. I just tried to learn as much as I felt sufficient for my decision in 1 week rather than over 5 years. The Charger may take a while to sell, and if I wanted exotic, I wanted it on sale as soon as I get it back (next week), so that very soon I can replace it with an exotic car (F355) which is a step in feel/drivability much more so to a lambo that I do want than the muscle car. Because it would go on sale pretty much next week, thats why I needed to know what Im doing with it right now cause I wouldnt want to regret what I done or wish I stuck it on sale months earlier by the time i figure it out slowly. The ferrari is not a replacement for the DIablo, its just a "step in the right direction" of what I want to change from (muscle car). So Im sorry if everything i was trying to say didnt make sense. But if you read this entire thing I just posted propperly, it SHOULD make sense, I cant make it any clearer.
