turbocharging Can it be done? I can custom fab most of the stuff needed to do the conversion and which engine is the best to do it on. I am thining the QV because of the 4 valve heads.

There are plenty of chared Ferraris. That ususally happens when folks let the fuel hoses deteriorate to the point that they leak, :p thus producing the charred ;) Ferrari.

But on a serious note; Yes, you can turbo-charge a Ferrari. But current wisdom suggests super-charging instead.

If you use the search function, you can find plenty of information from smg2 on super-charging a 308.

+1 on supercharging. Been done and your development and parts costs to turbocharge would probably approach the cost of a finished supercharger kit.

    Brandon,
I have a supercharged 308 and am in your general area. If you are thinking about going that route you are welcome to check mine over for ideas. I also know of an inexpensive Mondial 3.2 Coupe that would be a perfect candidate for this. Send me a pm or email if you want more info.

My 308 is carbed, so you can obviously go either way, but there is tons of data here on supercharging the injected cars quite successfully.

    Bill,

Thanks for the offer. next time I head up that way(I actually may be moving to Louisville to work for Porsche again) I will check it out. Thats cool that your car is carbed. When I get a 308 I want a carbed car. I will let you know next time I am in the area

I've got a Norwood turbo'd Mondial, and I must admit it was done in an interesting fashion.

Now a previous owner did this, not me, so I don't know the details of the deal, but what is on it is a Turbonetics ceramic bearing turbo. Looks to be a medium size.

One thing I noticed that poses an engineering problem is no space for a heat exchanger that I can see. So this one doesn't have an intercooler at all. Just a gauge by the shifter that shows Turbo temperature(goes from 300 - 1400 or 1500 F; normal operating temp is 900). But to cope with the heat loads, it runs incredibly rich. I'm assuming that fuel is still being burned as it exits into the exhaust pipe to carry some of the heat away from the engine. It's an odd setup on this one to say the least. The sound of that blow off valve is just amazing though, a very deep whir.

I would recommend a supercharger just based on less hurdles to jump.

Make sure to upgrade your clutch, it's something I need to change on this Mondial because it's slipping badly right now.

That is an Exhaust Temp Gauge, not an intake air temp gauge. 900 is pretty low for EGT. Must be rich like you said. I saw Bob making ~450hp on a 308 recently at 15 psi with no intercooler. They guy knows what he is doing.

Is there any chance in the world that you could get me a picture of where your oil drain hose goes into the block after it leaves the bottom of the turbo?

    Thanks,

    Aaron
