Just checking - is the seat belt control mechanism in the black box? My husband wants to reconnect his seatbelt on a '94 348 Challenge, and is not sure what to do and how to do it... an earlier owner disconnected it, and my husband wants to return it to its original condition. Currently has the seats out. Any help would be appreciated.

The control modules (black boxes) for the seat belt system are located behind the center console panel. There is one for each side. Same part number. They are attached with gang connectors that swivel off to disconnect the pins. Here is a picture I took a long time ago for another owner. Chances are that your problem is right there, if someone unplugged it. Good luck!

Before messing with the control unit, make sure they aren't simply disconnected via the bullet connection underneat each seat. That's where most people disable the system.

I assumed he would have noticed that if he had the seats out of the car. Should never assume anything, I suppose.

As far as he can tell, all plugs (black boxes, bullet connections under seats, connections by each seatbelt retractor, etc.) are connected, and the driver's side belt still does not work - the other one does. Is there a fuse anywhere? Thanks for thinking about this. (He did have the bullet connections already hooked up, of course... This is his second ferrari. Unfortunately got sideswiped and totaled his 328 GTB when he hit a telephone pole, went down a bank, and spun when he hit a tree in the creek bed.)

Very common, same with my car...I believe these motors are VERY prone to go bad. I bet you 50% of the people on this board have at least one motor that is not working...I disconnected my black boxes that way the light doesnt even show up anymore.

Just in case you don't have access to a parts book, here is the diagram of the "motor mouse" system. Note that the relay (item #26) is labled as "passive belt acoustic signal", so it's a chime, not a functional component.

My belts have been unplugged since I got the car five years ago, so I'm not an expert on how they work. A quick look in the Owners Handbook didn't show a fuse or a relay for the system. Just the black boxes.

Sorry the quality of the image isn't very good when reduced to 640 pixels.
