    i'm going to offer for those interested, steve this includes you ;) a cost option on plugs. i'll break it down, my shop can make the needed plugs for the air injector ports. i had a set made myself, but doing them 1 set at a time is $$$ they offered to make 9 sets ( a bar makes 72 peices) for $270.

    now they are different from the other ones offered here by another f-chatter. they are 6061-T6 and made from 17mm octogan bar stock. i'll resize a pic for you guys.

    i'm throwing this out there for those who may want to do this now or later. so it's 9 spots available for $30+shipping. if i can't get 9 then it won't happen, i'm not interested on sitting on these. too small a product.

    What models are these applicable to? Do any of the fuel-injected 8 cylender cars have air injection systems?

    As a matter of general principal, I have always stripped the air injection set-ups off of all the British cars I have owned as soon as I bought the car. You'd be amazed at the difference in performance freeing up a few extra horespower makes, especially when you are starting out with only 50-100 hp in some of the old British sports cars!

    In any case, I would treat any Ferrari of mine the same. I think it is great you are offering these.

    I don't mean to show my gross ignorance, but what do these do and why would they be needed to replace whatever is stock in their place?

    It applies mostly to the air injected 308/Mondial 2-valve engines because the air injection nozzle blocks a significant portion of the exhaust port. On the 1983 air-injected 308QV/MondialQV engines, the nozzle was changed to be less of an obstruction if left in place (when the air injection system is disabled), and changed again on '84-'85 308QV/328 to not obstruct at all.

    Scott -- your price is way too low! ;)

    Thanks for the education -- I presume this is part of the smog emissions system and that's why blocking/plugging them off gives a slight HP boost? Or...?

    the increase in HP i would think would be small or marginal. the reason for it is the restriction the nozzle i nthe exhaust stream. the real benifit comes from removing a ticking time bomb, when that nozzle finally comes apart it'll make a mess and run the risk of getting into the cylinder.

    the plug simply fills the hole left behind and the nipple in the plug protrudes to fill the port somewhat flush to avoid a whistle. first iteration didn't have the nipple and the exhaust would whistle with each firing sequence, a funney and annoying sound.

    The air injection on the early carbed 308s was a real contraption, as mentioned if left in place even with belts removed the tubing and valves can leak and cause problems..

    Interestingly my car #22127 could still be tuned to the nameplate parameters without the system at all, by a knowledgable Tech.........then went exempt in Texas at 25 years of age........

    OKAY! that went like a fire sale!

    all spots taken. if the demand is still there i can have more made. the reason for the odd sett number (9) is that we're using 6' bar stock. so doing more isn't a problem. for the cost price though the shop preferes to use the 6' bar stock. the machine making these is automated so there is no operator needed to keep the thing going. feed in the stock and punch a button, hour later the parts are in the hopper, so you can see how they wan't to do full runs.

    the list now:
    steve = 1
    JRR = 3
    larry =1
    tvine = 1
    big tex = 1 might get you 2
    matt = 1
    billy = 1

    Tex,

    You mean me?? I found the parts manual and workshop manual on line through another thread and downloaded both. I've printed them out and put together looseleaf shop binders. The parts manual is a HUGE help in figuring things out on the car, much more so than the workshop manual.

    Scott is the man! I love this website!!!

    Regards,
    Steve

    Mike C...in answer to your query, the HP 'boost" if any would be from the two belts driven pumps being off the engine, and as noted the better flow from an unrestricted exhaust flow....

    I remember those first ones, that 'wistled' or 'chirped'!

    Thats why I was gonna chop and plug the old pieces.......thanks again.

    Even the dear old 78 y.o. PO of #22641 told me his tech could NEVER get the car to run without problems when the complete system was active.....

    Maybe my pumps and valves can help a California car.....
