Do you tip the driver of the transport? Mine is driving across the entire country. What do you tip if the driver gets it here in perfect shape in a requested expedited time frame? What about if the car shows up in perfect condition in a reasonable amount of time? thanks for your feedback. Kevin.
what kind of car? if it's a 308 that you've been saving up for for the last 10 years different story or is it a 2006 f430 spider, that you bought because you can, then what's a $100?
I tipped my guy $100. Here's one thread on the subject. http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=119219&highlight=tipping
I am ashamed to say that this had never occurred to me before, and I failed to do this the last time I had a car transported. It was Delaware to Texas, and the guy deserved a little consideration. It makes sense, doesn't it? You tip the valet guy at a restaurant - so why not somebody you trusted with it cross country. I would hazard a guess that about 10-15% would be about right, based on other service tips... Shamefully, James - maybe I was just too excited to see the car show up to be thinking right.
when I had my 355 delivered I was so excited and grateful that they got it there on schedule I tipped the guy $300. That probably was a little excessive, but having worked in the restauramt industry when I was younger I always preffered the excessive tippers to the mearly average tippers!
I tried to give my guy $100 but he refused it saying he's already paid well but appreciated the gesture.
I have been shipping cars for 20 years.....No tipping!! The drivers are professionals that are paid well. This isn't a waiter. Do you tip you atty or doctor?
Me too, although the guy arrived a couple of days late and called me not long before arrival. Call it B+ service.
The driver who refused the offered tip was a class act who stated the correct position very clearly. They are professionals who are properly compensated for what they do. We ship extremely high value shipments all over the country on specialized carriers all the time and the drivers no more expect a tip than we would think of giving them one.
I figure it would be best to at least offer a tip, and if he rfuses, leave it that. I'm 17, already worked in 2 jobs that I rely on tips, so maybe its just that fact, but I will alwasy tip fairly generously.
Hey, Do you tip the UPS driver, The mailman, give me a break. I wouldn't even consider tipping. It is their job to get the car there on time and in perfect shape. They are well paid. I'm a photographer and no one has ever tipped me, even though I've won national awards for the photos I've taken of them. It's my job. Don't start a bunch of rich-guy stuff that the rest of us working stiffs can't live up to. Don't want to offend anyone, but if I thought he took better care of your car because he thought he was getting a tip it would make me nuts. What if the next guy doesn't tip, does he get his car keyed?
I've used the same shipping company for 3 trips, all on the west coast, and I tipped the driver each and every time, although he tried to refuse it the first time. The car gets here without damage, on time, and they help putting it in the trailer, wait around sometimes for the cars to show up, etc. I know they are professionals, but it never hurts to let them know that you appreciate the service. As for tipping your doctor or lawyer, I had a client tip me once, was laughing so hard (to myself), I couldn't turn him down. Art
I had a client offer me a tip as well once, but I turned it down knowing it would have been an "insider trading" case!
I absolutely agree for the above stated reasons. Maybe it's a little insurance towards the on time and safe delivery of a very expensive item.
You accepted a tip from a client? You must be an atty. Are you going to make sure they get better representation next time? I would hope that you give 100% ALL the time. I am a physician and would not accept or expect a tip. These drivers are well paid professionals...and if they don't get your car there in perfect shape and on time........its their butt and their insurance. Tipping is out of control in the US.
You probably should not expect a tip as you are paid more than we are. The cost of medicine and its related services is way out of control as well!
if you can afford a ferrari, you can afford to tip. it's my way of increasing the gdp of our country and encouraing consumer spending.
Very true as well as "vehicle" for showing your appreciation. What's a $100.00 to those of us who can easily afford the cars? It certainly means a great deal more to the driver who had to work substantially harder for that amount!
