Many other clubs have managed to grapple with these potential liability issues. As long as the requisite legal disclaimer is inlcuded on the site, there is no real reason for not including a lot of interesting content on the web. There is a far greater real liability in the organisation and running of real world events anyhow! M Aussie Ferrari techtalk on Yahoo was linked to the FCA site a few years ago and the Nat committee asked for the link to be removed. It was clear that the FCA had nothing to do with the Yahoo list , although most of the members are also in the FCA, The position was that irrespective of the small potential for liability, they wanted nothing to do with it, and even a link could be construed as some kind of endorsement of the site /content I see your point about publicly "advertising" some of the events as being counter productive though! This along with any potentially "confidential" info could be a secure members section. M Confidential info is already in the members section If part of the purpose is to promote the club and the marque, how can this be achieved, without giving non-members a taste of what the club has to offer? The National site certainly does not do that. M There is a membership brochure downloadable in PDF format that provides info about the club. IMO the net effect of the National view is the creation of a secret society with no external visibility of its activites and potential worth. M FCA membership is open to current Ferrari owners or past owners who are approved by the committee, I wouldn't call that a secret society, but on the other hand it's exlcusive in the sense that being interested in Ferrari's isn't enough to be a member. There are over 200 FCA members in Vic alone, how many of these families have web acess? How many know about fchat, as an example? Tech articles are available online, IF you know where and how to look. How many of these members have the prerequisite skills and knowledge? M The FCA has around 600 members at present, there are about 800 cars in the club and an estimated 2000 Ferrari's in Australia, the club has one of the highest percentages of owner membership for any car marque so publicity of the club is pretty good. That said, active participation in the club is limited to maybe 150 members who are the regulars at the various club functions around Australia. If you look at the typical profile of an Aussie club member, it's a male, aged in their 50's or 60's , small business owner and generally not in to computers or the web. They prefer their communications in printed format rather than by email ( we floated the idea a couple of years ago to save a fortune in printing & sending newsletters ) Pretty much all the FCA members I know who are web savvy have found Fchat or the Yahoo group and are monitoring this thread as lurkers! I'm sure they can all do a google search and find what they want without it being duplicated on the FCA site. With regard to content on the site, Leona Bonning ( National Committe Member ) is responsible for chasing up the various state committee's for content & newsletters etc. She volunteered to do this about a year ago because I got fed up with begging the various state's to send their info for publishing on the web site. I've noticed that in the past 18 months the Victorian divison have stopped publishing a newsletter ( apparently no one wants to be the editor) and I believe NSW is currently looking for a new editor. WA have been very consistent and QLD, ACT & SA don't publish one becuase of the small number of members in those states. Michael
That was because it enabled uncensored opinions to be aired that were not in line with then current state and national Ferrari Club Commitees - no other reason.
I seem to recall there was a colourful Sydney personality inolved who has a reputation as a stirrer - can't recall who it was though - do you remember..?
You can talk! What's your excuse??? I get up around 5.00am and log on most mornings, part of my daily ritual, but Ash never seems to leave.
Is that some sort of cryptic reference to your relationship with Carl? Who eats the cheese, scratch that, I really don't want to know!!
Ferrarifixer's already said he's not interested, but if anyone is, or knows someone who is, then please let me know and they might be included. http://www.fcavic.com.au/repairs.htm Obviously, Victoria only.
