Briatore confirmed an offer was made, but the issue would be Alonso's insistance that he only sign for one year. Briatore wants a longer term commitment.

I can see Hekki going to Mclaren, and Alonso being #1 to Giancarlo again. Fischy was key to the team finally understanding the problems with the 2007 chassis. The 2008 Renault should be a front runner in 2008.

So what rides would be available to Alonso in 2009? Please, it would doubtful that Ferrari would replace Kimi, and just as doubtful that Ferrari would want two #1 drivers after witnessing the debacle at McLaren.

So what other teams if not Renault?

Apart from this question, 2008 should be quite interesting. Ferrari, BMW, Renault, even McLaren will be on the front row at various times. Red Bull will surprise, and even Toyota and Williams will do well at certain circuits. F1 in 2008 might get as exciting as the finish to a NASCAR superspeedway event. Can't wait.

The only other teams that have a payroll big enough are Toyota and possibly Red Bull. I'm not sure how big Force India's budget is or if BMW is still looking for another driver.

Carlos Ghosn has stated that "the decision to hire Alonso is Briatore's alone, but Renault has everything it needs to be a leading team next year"....and Briatore reveals that "we will see what happens between now and Tuesday as I proposed to FA a project that expands into the future and we will see if he likes it".

His second choice would be RB...but a question is... are the Renault engines identical? Dieter Mateschitz has stated "let's see how things go. Our drivers for next year are 100% Coultard and Webber ...but in F1 you never know".

Sounds to me that Alonso is headed to Renault. This being F1 even a multi year contract can be broken at the end of 08. Whether he would leave Renault would probably depend on how competitive the Renault and the Ferrari are at the end of next year.

I think if the Renault does well next year, {even if he finishes a very close 3rd like this year}, he would stay.

    Certainly poosible he will stay.

If he went to Toyota, he just might make them a top contender. Certainly they have the money..

I also believe that FA is headed to Renault.
With Carlos Ghosn statement it looks like the money is there for Briatore to pay not only FAs salary but also to develop and refine the team. I am sure the contract will include clauses to that effect. Let us not forget that Renault had one of the lowest budgets in F1 when FA won the championship.

The Toyota is crap, it will take more than one year with a great driver to get that car in shape.

Well if what you say IS true I love it!!! Nico is a hard charger and his talent has not been fully realized I just hope Keke's hardnosed "I am alway's right" demeanor does not effect Nico and his future.

    ZEUS,
I'm just wondering what your credential's are or your association is with F1 that you can state that Nico going too McLaren is a fact? No disrespect intended but I do wonder why we must believe you know what is going to happen?

If Zeus is lying we'll find out. Who knows, he might be Nico Rosberg's manager and is trying to stir interest among other teams. If the guy is telling the truth he's not going to tell you who he is.

Nico is managed by his father Keke so that's settled. I only want ZEUS to offer us all alittle insight as to why we must take his word as the truth, I never asked him to reveal his source's.

He could just say he is affiliated with F1 or William's in some form or fashion as that would offer US alittle insight as to his prediction.
