Hi Guys Has anyone had any engine damage on their F430. I am currenlty dissmantling an engine with damage to the top of 2 pistons. Something has got into the engine but i dont know how. Thanks in advance for any response
Could it be "pre-cat" from the headers??? Sucked back into the engine.... Happens on the 360's on occassion..
Its not common in the F430 but like previously stated the manifolds were to blame. I have also seen one have issues that was overfilled with oil. What do you mean something got in the engine?
Thanks Daniel, I think you just got another order from Australia. Here are a couple of pictures of the damage, There could have been alot more Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
A foerign object made it into the cylinder and it was probably steel. I have seen many pistons damaged from cat converter matrix material and it is very different.
I have a question regarding "backpressure" from the 430 muffler. Do you think it is safer to have the exhaust valves pinned open as this reduces backpressure? Owners of CS and F430 and some 360 with the factory sport stradale do pin open the valves for better exhaust notes. But maybe there is a benefit if this helps reduce the pressure that might blow the cat converter matrix backwards into the cylinder?
what type of steel would make it into there, and wouldn't it be tiny and often to cause that kind of damage?
Wouldn't keep me from buying one. I have never ever seen a stock 360 kept in good running condition eat its cat.
Without doubt the best thing you can do is leave it the way Ferrari built it. Backpressure does not cause that.
Is the metal tip of the spark plug still attached. I had a similar looking problem with a jaguar engine once. Wrong plug temp selection or detonation can cause the plug to breakdown and shed components.
Are you able to ever spot back pressure? does it make a specific sound of some sort? How do you find out whether this is happening or not? Thx. Bobby
