EVO's October 2009 issue just arrived. It's main cover story is a 10 car shoot-out for there "Greatest Drivers Car". The only Ferrari in the Top 10 is the F-50 ( although there is a top 100 list where most of the likely candidates are listed)

Others in the Top 10 are - Zonda F, 996 GT3, Lotus 340R, Caterham Superlight R300,Evo 6 Makinen, Mx-5, Lotus Elan 1973, Renault Megane R26.R and Cilo Trophy.

I wont Spoil it for anyone who reads EVO and announce what there result was.

2 of the 10 greatest drivers' cars are compact Renaults?? Haven't been near either of the two, but it's weird that they are on that list instead of the obvious candidates (Porsche et al)...

Schau mal in eine Bahnhofsbuchhandlung! Dort findet man derartiges öfter, wenn auch mit ordentlicher Verzögerung... zumindest in Darmstadt hab ich schonmal Evo in der Hand gehabt.

FWd cars surprise me too, since they are FWD after all and to me they're boring. However, EVO really praised the 26.R., apparently it has a really clever differential and had no problem keeping up with a bunch of supercars in tight twisty mountain roads. Maybe the clio uses the same diff?

October! I just purchased June the other day

That should mean I will be reading this issue around Xmas time

Here is the reason why the F50 made the Top10 over other Ferrari's. Way back in issue 83 they did a Super Ferrari test.

You should - it's a great test, in fact one of the best things I've ever read in a magazine.

Evo are notorious for mixing Mega Money Supercars with more affordable cars in there tests. I must admit, as a long time Evo subscriber, there is a few strange choices in this test line up, and a few all time Evo favorites which seem to have been left out (for example, the 550 maranello won there "drivers car of the decade test" a few years back) . But i think there idea for this test was to bring together the best Drivers cars in each field, Best Front driver, Best light weights, best 4wd, best supercar etc etc etc..

You've no idea. Your American, you don't get the FWD super minis that ROW does.

while I agree that RWD is the absolute best, there are some very, very good handling FWD cars for the european & asian markets right now.

I know there are some good FWD cars out there. BUT if your picking the top 10 overall, I don't see how any FWD cars could make the list. No matter how good a FWD car is, there are at least 10 better RWD cars out there. If you see my point....then again, Evo isn't exactly a unbiased publication.

The Renault Sport Megane R26.R is a very focused drivers car, its thought of as being a poor mans Scuderia or GT3 RS. It comes with a rollcage (no rear seats), carbon fibre bonnet, polycarbonate windows, Sabelt racing seats and titanium exhaust.

It also holds lap record at the Nurburgring of 8m 17s, for the fastest front wheel drive production car.

I was just surprised because I just got the August issue a couple weeks ago. I guess the B&N gets their subscription a bit late.
