No an MCC chassis. Jason did design it.

it's too bad the birdcage wasn't produced. Awesome looking design.

I agree. PF refined the design to the point that it would work on the street and could have put one on a street legal/US Show and Display Legal MC-12 chassis but although some came close no one wrote a check.

It's been my understanding that out of the 11 MC12's originally in the US, 6 were more than just S+D. (still, that limits who might be up for converting a perfectly good rare supercar )

My understanding is that as there isn't a US version there can only be show and display.

My information is 2nd hand, so it may be completely incorrect.

That along with the MC12's engine was based on the Enzo design right? I'm sure its not exact but is there some connection?

Yes. MCC is race version of MC-12. Both are derived from Enzo but have a longer wheel base.

She's still prowling the roads of NY. She'll be out this weekend.

Dino Competizione was out last night. Driving that one through the cool NY night is a trip and a half.

Alright here is something I've been wondering. Jim, have you had any major/expensive repair issues so far in the course of owning P 4/5? Or has she been fairly trouble free outside of regular maintenance? What is the maintenance schedule like on her(or maybe you prefer him?). Just curious - thanks in advance for your reply.

Nothing really. As we put on a lot of hard track miles we had to replace brake pads, tires and clutch at 4K miles but no issues that were "major".

Maintenance is normal Ferrari stuff. PF built systems have no issues at all.

I know you're busy...

Jim,

If you get a chance, I'm really curious how your 2-color LEDs work. When you get a chance...

Thanks,

Manny

Jim's understanding should be correct based on this part of the eligibility rules for Show or Display:

Quote:
In determining whether a vehicle is eligible for importation for show or display, NHTSA will consider the following factors, among others:

Whether a vehicle of the same make, model, and model year was manufactured and certified for sale in the United States.
Whether a vehicle of the same make, model, and model year has been determined eligible for importation pursuant to 49 CFR Part 593.
Whether the vehicle is currently in production.
Whether more than 500 of the vehicles were produced.
Whether the vehicle is a kit car, replica, or special construction vehicle.

If the answer to any of the above is affirmative, you should not expect NHTSA to grant permission for importation. If the answer to item 4 is affirmative, the applicant must establish that the vehicle is of exceptional technological and/or historical significance.

Source
Basically if there was a US Version, then any non-US versions would not be eligible.

Hey Jim,

I was just wondering... as you own all the rights to the Ferrari P4/5 by Pininfarina, if (hypothetically) another Ferrari lover wanted to convert their Enzo into an official P4/5 then would you allow them to do it providing they paid for use of the design? Or do you quite owning the only one in existence?

All the best,
Andrew.
