I love those renderings but recent ferraris haven't been focused in the direction of "throw-back" styling. Thinking about it more, it would make sense for this to be called a GTO if it is based of the 599XX because of the car's racing focus. Plus, it fits the GTO name in overall design, a race ready, front engined V12 with similar body proportions to the 250 GTO. The more I think about it, the 599XX appears to be ferrari's interpretation of a modern day 250 GTO.

If it is HALF as good as we have discussed here, then it will be worth it. You will have, maybe, the best car in the world in your garage.

First of all. I spoke with a mechanic in the ferrari factory about the 599 GTO. The mechanic smiled, confirmed and told me it will be produced in 2010. Second, there was a dealer representative with me during this tour who told me that he had the first information on 8 th sept 2009 the day before the world premiere of the 458 Italia. It was during a dealership in Maranello. Third, I heard serious information from the manager of Ferrari West Europe about the 599 GTO. You can get information via PM. You can also call this dealer: http://www.dealer.ferrari.com/dealer...huis/index.php Ask for Marc ( no it's not me...) So I am 95% sure it will be a "GTO"... |

Dave- Affirmative. Ferrari has a habit of woofing all of us. Remember the F60? Somehow came out the Enzo after a few F60 magazine covers. No telling what they will do. 430 evolves to 450, right? Whoops, 458 Italia. Who knows? They can play games with all kinds of numbers. Individual cylinder displacement (400 = 4.8 liter V12), displacement and number of cylinders (376, 458), displacement alone (430, 550/575M, etc), and made up numbers (612, 5.75 liter, rounded up to 6 liter, V12), 250 LM (actually 275 ccs/cylinder except for the prototype), anniversary year (F40, F50), mix displacement and cylinders with historical name (288 GTO). No predicting what the eventual name will be.

In fact they don't know anything, the "think" that Ferrari will launch something in Geneva, no more! |

I've said for sometime now, if it turns out as generally forecast--approx 1500 kilos, 675 +/- hp, super fast 2, bigger/stronger brakes, tighter suspension and more aggressive styling to boot--I believe it may well be the best production road car in the world. Well, best at least for a price under $1 m + . A space is ready in my garage already! |

The 288 GTO produced 200 cars, which was required for Group B racing--and I think--not sure--the Porsche 959 was in this category. But the issue of the name is IMPORTANT. Ferrari has, to my knowledge, produced less than 250 cars with the GTO nomenclature--and the nomenclature carries with it a very specific pedigree and a very specific cache. More importantly, it suggests that a governing body will certify its entry into some racing series. This is why I have objected to the casual observers who say that the name is not important. Generally, it is not important unless the letters "GTO" are after it. |

250GTO, 39 cars
288GTO, 272 cars If they were to produce a 599GTO, my guess production would be about the same as the Enzo, so 400-ish. |

Doug,
No offense, but "qualified drivers only" is awfully gimmicky. This is a "requirement" that cheesed out Mustangs are sold with to make guys feel like they are buying something others can't. A half million dollar Ferrari would never have a stipulation like this. Respectfully- SBF |
