Story here: Ferrari 599 GTB: PH Fleet - PistonHeads And this is the video he made after he bought it less than a year ago: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQdpNoPCd9o]Sold the Porsche, Bought a Ferrari 599 - CHRIS HARRIS ON CARS - YouTube[/ame]!
In my opinion it was a bιg mistake to sell the GTR RS 4.0 in order to buy the simple version of the Ferrari 599. Porsche is a good keeper for the future... Does anyone know what he's going to buy?
He has a small fleet of cool cars. They are not in the same league as the P/F, but they still require $$ to run. Before his 4.0 Chris also had a fully custom built early 911 which he claimed cost as much as an entry level, brand new 911. Anyway, I think that's just the way he rolls! A short enjoyment of expensive machinery to the point his man math fails and moving up to the next thing. Guy has his priorities straight
This is not even funny. CH didn't expect the running cost of Ferrari? He just want to sell it and buy another one OR he has to drive the other one because of his job I guess. I hope he would not say again "I had to sell it because I didn't expect the running cost" it sounds like SO STUPID. Stupid Justification. Also, I don't understand because the running cost of 599 was much less than 911 GT2 from my experience.
I thought this was an informative article. How do others compare the gearbox in the 599 to the newer generation 458/F12? Philip
I gotta say that I don't agree with his call about the gearbox in the 599. Sure it's not a 458 Gearbox, however it performs when giving the car a punch or whilst driving through town. Further more, given all of that power, I am not sure that one would be able to change gear and steer as well in a manual car.
Although I realize that we all just decide how much we're wiling to lose by buying a Ferrari, and I've recently had this conversation with myself, I'm very surprised to hear someone with Mr. Harris' credentials whine about the cost of ownership. What did he expect? A non-rare modern Ferrari's value will hold up like an ice cream cone in Dubai. If he wants value.....maybe a 328 or a 550. The rest, including mine, are lead sinkers. Speed costs money. How fast do you want to go?
He thought that was expensive? He got off so easily on the depreciation end of thing. He very will could have doubled that depreciation or worse. IMO he didn't do too bad for a used 599 in a market when they are dirt cheap and piling up. These cars have been depreciating massively in Europe.
dumped the new mistress and went back to his first flame... the TR. He sums it up with: "I've gone back, and this relationship may last longer than many of the others." Rgds, Vincenzo RE: Ferrari 512 TR: PH Fleet - PistonHeads
Looks like even he has gone "classics" as we've always complaint about how much of that power of the current supercars that we can tap into & be really happy? But speaking of depreciation, "£10,000 for around 3,000 miles" is so cheap as over in Singapore or those non-supercars friendly countries, we lose ten times that .... not that I'm proud to say it but it's just how some of us are being screwed to enjoy the same car. Sigh. Anyhow, glad that Chris has found his new or old love again
