Question SSF monthly dinner - thoughts on changing from 1st Thursday to either Sat or Sun.

We started the SSF dinner because SPEED karting closed their doors and we wanted to keep the gatherings on a monthly basis.

Since Speed is now Xtreme and we kart atleast every other Thursday. Would everyone consider getting together the 1st Sat or Sun of the month vs. Thursday. This would allow for my wife to go to the gatherings because we could get a sitter for our 3 year old and her 7 month old sister.

I would vote for Sunday Brunch and keep the tradition going.

You guys have started to have great success at the dinners because you have remained consistent on the Date and Time. Changing date and time now would hurt what you have got going. I understand Roberts issue but no day is going to work for everybody and weekend days should be stayed away from as we all have other things to do on weekends.

For almost 6 years we over here have met on the 1st Monday and that has never changed.

I only offer my opinion because I would like your success to continue.

I agree with this statement. In addition I think people are more likely to have "stuff" happening on the weekend, beit vacations, kids, company, also other events. I think it would prove difficult in the long run to maintain the turnout we have now.

When SSF went through its reorganization some months ago, the most active 5 or so members got together and discussed various ideas, including the night that the monthly dinner should take place. At the end of the discussion, keeping the first Thursday night of the month made the most sense. It had been a tradition for some time.

Personally, I do not think we should change the Thursday night monthly dinner. We are attracting 30+ now every month. Not everyone has a significant other that would want to give up a weekend evening for "the guys car club".

But I do think we should plan weekend activities for the reasons that Robert mentioned. I have tried to put together some Sunday brunches, with very limited, if not poor response. So changing the dinner to a weekend would very likely be a bad move for most of the regulars. Not to mention that some of you have to deal with hangovers.

My vote would be to keep the SSF dinners on the first Thursday of the month. And help come up with ideas for weekend activities. And actually participate.

So how about a brunch Sunday October 1?? The Chinese Grand Prix will likely be shown live sometime around midnight Saturday, so no reason why we can not have decent turn-out for brunch. Right??

I personally would like the weekend night for the monthly dinner. But I have nothing going on the weekends. If it was on a weekend I would have my wife with me most months. But with the current set up I bring her one month out of three. Either way is okay with me.

So instead of changing the Thursday nite plan right away, why don't we try in addition a weekend or two and determine the turn-out? It may be a little harder getting a restaurant on a weekend nite for 25-30 people, but we can try.

And do you mean Sunday brunch, or a Friday/Saturday nite dinner??

SSF instructions.......

1) Keep the traditional monthly dinners!!
2) Add occasional Sunday Brunches.
3) Add occasional meets, drives and get-togethers.

Robert, go ahead and plan brunch(es) whenever you want. You know I will probably attend on Sundays. I'm sure there are others who will as well. In fact, I will help plan the first one at The Breakers.....(mmmmm....great brunch!!)

But, I don't think we should mess with something that seems to be working very well - Thursday night monthly dinners.

me too

I'm with Fab Five Freddie.

I'd rather see additional events than start messing with what seems to be working.

Weekend nights might work but the problem, I expect, is that they tend to get taken up by family obligations, travel, etc. Whereas, a weeknight, is usually much less likely to have such obligations.

I belive that these factor were taken into consideration during our original discussions and that was one of the reasons that Thrusday nights were settled upon.

I think that the idea of trying a couple and seeing how the attendance is would be a great start.

I like better weekdays, given that with all the working late on the week, I prefer to spend the weekend with my kids. But, would like to try some weekend brunches!

Well all righty then. Discussion over. Fred has spoken.

Actually, I agree with Fred. So let's have a brunch this Sunday someplace around Commercial and A1A or Las Olas, and then end up at Extreme to watch the the replay of the Chinese GP at 1:30 PM.

That sounds like a wonderful idea. I would have interest in that.

Why don't you drive over in a car that you have sold to IRC, I'd like to do a post purchase inspection of the car he is going to complain about next time.

OK, here is an idea for the weekend of October 7/8. Annual car show at City Place in West Palm Beach. Cars on display Saturday and Sunday 12-6. I may have my car there both days, although that is not required.

So how about we have a Sunday brunch, if it is at the Breaker's Fred will buy, and then we head over to City Place in time to display the cars, or just look if you don't have time to stay? You can do a late lunch, or go to a movie, or so shopping.

Cars over 20 years old will be on the south end of the mall, cars newer will be on the north end. There is no auto traffic on the main roads because of this show. This reminds me of the annual Disney Celebrations show, which is very nice.

What about it Fred??

One other thing to consider is that on a busy weekend night a restaurant will be far less receptive to our parking/seating need for a large group since they are already at capacity and probably have an hour or two wait list. This was another factor in our decision to do a weekday dinner.

The idea of a brunch on the weekends once a month sounds great to me. Let's add this to the SSF schedule rather than try and replace the Thursday dinner.
