NFC : Fall foliage on the Hudson
I decided to do the touristy thingy & take my sons on a boat ride up the Hudson for the Foliage. I went with NY Waterways because theirs was only a 4 hour tour (Circle line is an all day affair) and I could bring our lunches as opposed to buying "Gourmet box lunches" at unreasonable prices. The Ferry tour leaves NY (next to the intrepid) stops at Port Imperial NJ then goes up the Hudson past the GWB past the Tappanzee bridge to the end of the Tappenzee (Indian/Dutch translation is Cold Springs/sea & it's the widest point of the river).
Well, the foliage along the Hudson is still unremarkable unfortunately. But the tour leader was quite knowledgeable about the area and the 2 hours up was great as we learned non-stop about NY towns, building, waterfront, sing-sing prison, sleepy hollow, Tarrytown, etc. My retired parents (Dad is from 'da Bronx or "the Bronks family" according to the tour guide) were thoroughly entertained, my sons were enthralled and hence I was happy. Lots of photo opportunities. It's a bit chilly on deck though below is enclosed. Dress for it. But I'd recommend this to anyone who hasn't seen NY/NJ from the Hudson and wants to learn more about the history from colonization to the current Tappenzee Bridge/Tunnel fracas.
