Finali Mondiali -a great weekend at Monza
I spent a wonderful weekend at the Monza circuit immersed in Ferrari and had a fantastic visit with Ferrari friends from London and Maranello. Obviously the highlight of the weekend was Sunday and the F1 demo with Michael, Massa, Badoer and Gene. The festivities leading up to the four drivers taking to the track was very emotional to say the least. The Ferrari Owner's hospitality area was fantastic, food was delicious, the F1 simulators were lots of fun, viewing from all levels of the Formula One Paddock Club area was awesome. We were in the garages, in the pit area, on the pit wall, in the Challenge "garage area", couldn't have gotten any closer to some of the cars without sitting in them. I ventured off and spent much time in the historics garages talking with the guys and taking lots of photos. I am especially thankful to the guys from Switzerland and Germany there with the original Birdcage who opened the bonnet so I could take photos and gave me a history lesson of the car. Saturday was the day to explore and see things. Sunday was jammed packed with a plethora of Schumi fans with their banners just wanting to see him drive an F1 car for the last time. His gift from Ferrari was his car he drove in Brazil - it was encased in an enormous bow of Italian colors. It was a very emotional time seeing him making the last lap slow carrying the Italian flag. I watched the fans flock around fence surrounding the transporter and tent - Massa was ever so kind to walk along the fence providing autographs - fans were waiting to see Michael one more time. I found myself fascinated watching these folks all the while thinking about F1 Test Day April 13, 2005 - the day with Michael, the briefing, the personal autographs, the early morning greeting I received from him as he passed by . . .memories forever. After dinner Sunday night with my friends, I drove to Malpensa, turned in my rental car, went to the Crowne Plaza and didn't want to go to sleep even knowing I had to be at the terminal about 5:15 am - I didn't want the day to end.
My thanks to those who made the weekend possible and a special thanks to a wonderful husband for a great belated birthday present. Here's a bunch of photos of the weekend - I hope ya'll enjoy them as much I did taking them! I'll do them in groups - it may take a day or so to get it done - please check back!! Carol |

Don't pay any attention to the date/time on photos - slight malfunction!
A few more general photos . . . In the last event of the day, Michael was driving the black FXX - wow!! in the setting of the sun, the sound of the car, the physical character of the FXX, I was transformed to the Mulsanne Straight for a short time . . well, wishful thinking on my part. enjoy ,,,,, |

A few of the FXX'x in the garage and the orange one - oop's..
Misc. Ferraris in the parking lot in the "P" lot on Saturday; Sunday they were parked by color. We were in a silver Mercedes in the lot parked with the "others". Crowd estimate was 45,000 and I didn't count the Ferraris, but there were many, many of them from various countries. At our hotel, there were several from Germany. I liked the black 599 with the yellow calipers - it was from Switzerland. Enjoy viewing . . . . Last edited by jknight; 11-08-2006 at 12:32 AM. |

Brian - thanks - no immediate plans to go to Malaysia - with Michael no longer in F1, we find ourselves going back to sportscars more than the F1 cars. Glad you all enjoyed the photos - I'll post some additional ones and hope I don't totally bore everyone to death! Carol |
