Biggest Mall in America coming to NJ ... 5 mins from my house .. NOOOOOO!!!!

What will this do to residential property values in the surrounding areas? <--a question for you guys

NJ already has many malls, why do we need this one. Tell you the truth, I wouldn't mind but since I live so close to that area, it concerns me. Sounds very selfish and it probably is. Wait until I tell my dad about the increased traffic he will encounter on his way home from NYC every weeknight.

The planned opening date is in 2008. Meadowlands Xanadu will be located at the Meadowlands Sports Complex in Bergen County, New Jersey, within five miles of Manhattan.

Year-round skiing on real snow in the country's first indoor ski slope; watching the game on a three-story tall video wall; casting for trout with a hand-tied lure; even watching a minor-league baseball game at a new outdoor stadium. These activities and much more are planned at the Meadowlands Xanadu Sports District.

so is this thing bigger than the mall of america? i've been to that one before when i was out in MN for work. having a huge mall is just more confusing and a pain (parking?..traffic?..) than anything else. not sure which metric is commonly used to determine the scale of "bigness," but I would imagine it would be something like gross sq footage as opposed to just # of stores

Thank god i live in Northern Bergen County.

This is a terrible idea for the already congested area.

Then you have to consider how many malls are already in the area, theres two of many stores in Paramus alone! Now we'll have 3+ of the same store in one county?

There is no need for this super complex.

As I've worked on the legal matters surrounding this and Giants stadium, I have no comment. I will say two words: Blue Laws.

Sad news about the traffic and congestion it will cause but otherwise I think it is an amazing project. Can not wait to see it in person. Anyone know when it is expected to be completed? I could not find it on the website provided.

You just found out about this? Have you been living in a cave? This has been in the works for several years. It's tied in with all of the nonsense about the Nets moving to Brooklyn, the Devils to Newark, Giants stadium being replaced, etc. Traffic congestion is an understatement. Of course, the light rail connection they are talking about putting in will avoid all of those traffic problems (he says sarcastically).

Technically, it might be outside bergen county, so they wouldnt have to worry about blue laws.

We should have a new rule.
Anybody who advocates this mall going in must;
1) Live within 1 mile of it not on a cul-de-sac
2) Drive through the traffic daily during rush hour
3) pick up every scrap of paper that people leave behind in the parking lots: daily
4) spend 2 hours each day at the side of the road in a dunk tank with a sign saying "I helped cause this traffic mess. Pelt me with a tomatoe if you can"
5) Pay for comparable land for the wildlife displaced....themselves.

So as NewYorkers flood over to Jersey to bypass the 8% sales tax be prepared for NJ to raise it again. Or is the new mall falling under the jurisdiction of the "Reduced tax rate"?

They are biting off the indoor ski slopes in the Mall of the Emirates in Dubai.

America's late as usual.
