Ronald McDonald House Car Show for the Kids

On Saturday, November 11th, the Houston Chapter of the Ferrari Club staged a Car show for the Kids @ the Ronald McDonald House. As part of the show we had a "Bribe the Judge Concorso". We hid checks made out to the Ronald McDonald House in our cars for the judges to find. Prizes were awarded for the most money, 2nd most, etc. Additional prizes were awarded for Pig Pen Interior, Funniest Car, Funniest person, and several other catagories. We donated over $12,000 dollars from this event. Additionally, a lot of great kids got to sit in the cars and it brought more than few smiles to their faces. We then had cake and the kids helped present the awards. Yes, I won 2 of the awards and they are being displayed in my front office. The kids made each of the awards, which were drawings of cars. The drawings were done before the show, so sometimes you have to use your imagination concerning the cars. While we did donate a lot of money to the Ronald McDonald House and the kids got to see and hear the cars, I believe that those who participated received the most from the show. We left with so many pictures in our head of the kids who are battling cancer and other life threatening diseases, yet managed a smile. There attitude and smiles will be with us for a long, long time.

Thanks Houston Chapter for giving back to your community, and at the same time sharing our passion for Ferraris. Way to go!

Email from Toad Club

Here is an email that I received from Piers Gormly an Anglophile who has an amazing wit. He organizes the coming together of folks who seem to like cars that have rust induced directly at the factory. Anyway, he sends out announcements of the monthly gathering of the "Toad Club". Here is this months announcement, which mentions the RMc. fund raiser.

It's that time of the month again!

"Aaaaarrrgghh" I hear you cry as you conjure up a mental picture of a week of sheer hell....

But let me add in here that it is definitely not 'that' time, its Toad Club time. The other 'That' time..
All Clear?
Good.

Wednesday is just around the corner, the weather will be perfect for letting your dusty old thing see the light, you can optionally give it a damn good polishing, tweak up a few of those loose bits and pieces, fiddle with those parts that are normally hidden, give the upholstery a thrashing etc etc you know the drill

There are a few new members this month, people who have foolishly actually asked to be put onto the list.
Madmen (Madwomen). Still you asked for it, so don't expect any sympathy from me.The more the merrier....

Now, I must add in a little something here.
Last Saturday I went with a car club who like Italian cars begining with 'F' to a fun event at the Ronald McDonald House in Houston where they raised a huge sum to help the house in its work supporting the families of very sick children when they come to Houston for medical treatment.

What the house does for those of you who don't know, is provide living accommodation for the whole family of these children so that the family unit can stay together while having treatment.

Just an example that sticks with me from that day.... A little boy who has just about every disability I can imagine sat in my car and a huge smile spread across his face. It almost broke my heart. Makes you think..

What I am asking all of you when you come along on Wednesday is to think about making a small (or very big) donation to the charity of your choice, it is especially important at this time of the year..

So don't forget this is the last Toad meeting before all the Turkey's in America get very very worried indeed...A clutch of nervous gobblers if that would be the right term..

Toads are fine, whoever heard of 'Toad pie' or 'Toad au Vin', 'Roast Toad with all the trimmings please'....I don't think so
In England we do have 'Toad in the hole' but there is not a shred of evidence that a Toad has ever been in the edible holes....

Enough from me,

Don't forget now this Wednesday, from around 6.00 ish until whenever, bring all your cars, bikes, friends, enemies, work mates, chums, lovers, ex lovers, husbands, wives, brothers, sisters, politicians ( err no strike that one), members of Royal families etc etc to:

The Richmond Arms
on Richmond Avenue.
Remember 'free food' is provided. Well it is a British pub, and who on earth would actually choose to pay for British food......

See you there
