Really FAR OUT designs?

Aren't most of these later super car offerings pretty much similar in nature? Four wheel, mid engine V12, etc. Where are the REALLY weird designs? Show me some 6 wheeled or "all wheel drive" creations with turbine power to really whet the appetite. I still like Jim Hall's vacuum down force for extra traction. That was some far out thinking. Most of today's supercar fare are still "inside the box". I'm still yawning. The Doble Steam Car of the 1920s and 30s showed more revolutionary thinking than most of today's offerings.
Bring back the Fisher Body design contests and open the door to some bizarre automotive thinking with a modern flair.

Just playing devil's advocate here: I understand you're thought process, but at the same time wonder at the feasiblity of such concepts. I would venture to say that maybe designers shy away from these things because of their lack of relativity to the current market and their inability to enhance performance. A turbine powered car would be cool, but would basically be an illegal overweight Veyron on steroids that would be limited to the drag strip. I do like the idea of vacuum-powered downforce, however. On another note, most people are probably venturing towards design that explores alternate forms of fuel rather than six-wheel drive. I do agree with your overall point, however: a lot of supercars, in general, are beginning to become generic.
