Mondial windows...ahhhhhh!

Spent hours getting them to go up and down, working great until.....the car gets hot on a run and the consol switch stops working. When cools down they work! Help, has anyone else had this and are the switches at fault and are the replaceable?

this used to happen to me a lot, and I also used to replace the switches, UNTIL....

What I have found is works is to:

1. Turn off battery
2. Spray Radio Shack electrical contact cleaner in the switch through the space by the side
3. cycle the switch back and forth about 50 times
4. Let dry for a 3 hours
5 re-connect battery.

Eureka! They work!

Much like failing original metal-bodied relays, this car is sensitive to even light layers of contact surface corrosion.

See these and other home remedies for Mondial electrical issues in the Mondial electrical system thread.

best
Russ

Russ is right on. The switches get oxidized contacts inside. Electrical contact cleaner fixes them right up. I spent half a day troubleshooting the solenoid gas cap release on the Mondial before I figured out it was just a dirty switch contact and I fixed it in 2 minutes with contact cleaner. Still working great 2 years later.

And you don't really need to disconnect the battery. Russ is just being extra careful.

Can't comment on the window switches though I have done what the two previous posts say.

I had to have my console apart to replace a shorted wire. Whilst doing this I took the switches out of the panel (well those that were easy) and sprayed an electrical contact spray (from Maplins). The two worst switches were the glove box release and aerial switch.

I now just have to look at them to work, and no longer sit on them

On the topic of console and window switches for Mondials, does anyone have any for sale, or a source of these? Pete mentioned window switches - do you still have them?

Also, has anyone found alternative types of switch that fit? I don't care so much about the connectors - short adapter cables are easy to make, but a modern source of these, particularly the console switches, would be great.
