stradale - discoloration stains on carbon fiber air boxes

last year one of the air boxes on my yellow stradale developed a milky-looking discoloration/stain under the clear coat along one edge of the air box. ferrari replaced it under warranty. a couple months ago i noticed a similar milky discoloration/stain (but smaller) on one of the carbon fiber air boxes on my red stradale. i'm curious if anybody else with stradales has had any issues like this with any of their carbon fiber?

No, but the coloration isn't uniform on one of my door panels in one spot. However, I think that's just the weave of the carbon fibers.

My airboxes look fine.

Yes, I have seen this. I think they will all go bad in time. The workmanship (from a cosmetics standpoint, at least) on some of the stock carbon fiber Stradale airboxes is rather pathetic, so we are already working on aftermarket replacements that are exctly the same shape and weave pattern as stock. Our goal is to provide a better looking and more durable product.

Not to freak you guys out too much, but I would be surprised if we did not see major degradation of a good bit of the stock (exposed weave) carbon fiber components in the next few years, especially on the cars with more use. Many of the original F40 interiors look really bad after years of exposure to sun and heat.

Rick,

My airboxes also have a slight discoloration. I have not pursued a warranty claim. However, one of the engine side panels had quite a bit of discoloration and it was replaced under warranty. It seems that exposure to water does cause them to discolor. Normal washing of the car results in water accumulating on the engine in various areas. The air boxes and the fore portion of the carbon fiber side panels are a couple of those areas.

Heat probably contributes to this too.

I have some pictures that I have to dig up, but the quality of the air boxes is a joke.
