Kalikow's 250 GT Cali Spider Wins LV Classic
Peter Kalikow's 1961 250 GT California Spider won this years Louis Vuitton Classic Concours Award. Kudos to him, a very beautiful car. From the press release:
"After lively and passionate debate, the Ferrari 250 GT California emerged triumphant. A Spider dating from 1961 bodied by Scaglietti, elected Best of Show at the recent Ferrari Club of America Field and Driving Concours and owned by the New Yorker Peter Kalikow. Manufactured from a design by Pininfarina, this legendary automobile, with perfect proportions and a streamlined style, is one of the Italian car designer’s masterpieces. It is powered by the famous Vshaped 12 cylinder engine, a close relative of competition models, which not only produces some of the sweetest mechanical music, but also gives the car exceptional performance." Unfortunatly I haven't been fortunate enough to see this car in person, though I did see his Pininfarina one-off 612. |

Mr. Kalikow certainly has a passion for beautiful blue cars. I keep hoping he'll tire of his blue Enzo ....

1960 NY Black Plates with Deep Yellow Letters/Numbers are correct for 1960-1961 Vehicles. 1961s should have a yellow "61" tab over the "60"
I believe that Mr. Kalikow uses the PK1 plates on many of his cars even though personalized plates were not available in this vintage so it's likely not a vaild plate. Of course, he's the Chairman of the MTA, so he might have some pull with the state! T308 |

1487GT is a LWB. 2561GT is Kalikow's SWB.

Wow, talk about unrequited love. The Cal Spyder is my all time favorite car, bar none. Yes, 250 GTOs are cool, but a sports car needs to have a drop top. Can't you just see this car in the hills above Monaco with your lady in the shotgun seat? Could it ever get any better?
Unfortunately, in my case, there is the realization that, as I finally grow up, my finanncial situation will never allow me to purchase one of these cars. But what is even worst is that I don't fit. <Heavy sigh> However, in my case, perhaps this is one case where a replica makes sense. While I might wish for Ferrari to build a modern interpretation of the Cal Spyder, something tells me that this is not going to happen. So is the best that a poor boy can do? http://dormangarage.com/1962_Ferrari_Modena.htm Dale

Dale: Actually, it is very pretty. I cant imagine the price includes the motor. A 289 is a great engine and cane be made to produce a lot more power than the original. I am ready for a ride.
