Carolina Trophy: Any participants here?
Have any Fchatters participated, or know someone who has? I'm getting ready to sign up for this year's event and would appreciate any comments.
Thanks. Jack |

Hi, Malcolmb. Yes, I saw your car on the cover of the CT newsletter. Double cross-country is pretty daunting in any kind of a car. I admire your commitment! I once (1971) did San Diego-Ft Lauderdale in a Porsche Speedster, but I was too young to know better. I look forward to meeting you in Asheville.

Now that is totally awesome. I hope someone from a Magazine is covering that trip. Also, Henry W. has a very beautiful 275 in Asheville. See the Official Ferrari Cup Challenge Picture Thread for pictures.

There are also two very nice 330GTSs in Asheville....can't recall the owners' names right now, though.

Carolina Trophy
I really enjoy crossing the country in these old cars-cars I dreamed about while crossing the country in a TR4, then a Lotus Elan-you havent lived until you cross Kansas in an Elan, 5000 RPM is about 80 MPH as I recall, and then in a series of Alfa Romeo GTV's. During the next twenty years I was too busy for this kind of "luxury"[work, you know] but I bought a Daytona in Westchester, handed over the check, put my suitcase in the trunk and headed to San Diego. Since then I have driven it to NO twice, to Colorado, and to Monterey several times, adding about 30,000 miles to it. As a coincidence, it was previosly owned by Henry W, he left a card under the windshield at CI several years ago. He rebuilt it when it was his and did a good sound job-it only took about $25000 to finish it. I drive it quit a bit, in fact, that sounds like a plan for today.

choices....
Is there a reason you're taking the 275 rather than the 365 to the CT? My choice isn't quite as difficult......914/6 vs. 330GTC. The Ferrari usually wears me out in the mountains, but I'm taking it anyway.

Well, not much of a reason....The 275 is easier in the mountains, it drives "lighter" than the daytona. The Daytona has lots more power, but at some point that doesnt matter. The Daytona is also a better highway car because of the A/C.Also my family is from the area so I remember the mountains from my youth and have already driven the BRP and the Smokies in the Daytona. I guess the best reason is that I havent crossed the country in the 275, unless you count Sicilia, where I wish I were today as the Giro should be finishing about now. Next year. See you at the Biltmore.
