Uh-oh, one injector won't come out! Now what?

Well, I got all but one injector out (second one from the right, forward bank). When I turn the nozzle it just spins inside the threaded barrel. So how would one go about getting just the nozzle out so I can get an extractor into the barrel to thread it out. It appears that someone in the past has tried to chisel the top surface of the barrel to try to back it out. Whether they were successful I don't know but it sure doesn't seem like it! I tried yanking the nozzle out with vice grips but it doesn't seem to want to budge (well, either that or I'm a weakling!). Anyone have any ideas?

Also, what is the correct cylinder numbering on the car? Let's assume you're standing at the back, looking down onto the engine, starting with the rear bank (closest to the license plate panel), left to right. Then the front bank, left to right.

Cheers,
Aaron

Unhappy

Maybe a small Dremill tool with a small ceramic cut off disc....?
or- you might have to pull the engine...

Aaron,

Cylinder numbering on a transverse engined 308, standing at the back of the car, looking forward:

Cylinder 1 is on the rear most bank, at the cam belt end of the engine. Proceeding right to left on the same bank, you have in order cylinders 2, 3, and 4.

Switching to the front bank, at the flywheel end of the engine, you have cylinder 5. Then continuing left to right in order, cylinders 6, 7, and 8.

Note that cylinders 4 and 5 are paired up on opposing banks at the flywheel end of the engine and 1 and 8 are paired up on opposing banks at the cam drive end of the engine. This is quite different than US V8's.

Bill,

Many thanks! I have new Magnecor wires to install and noticed that whomever put wires on the car in the past put two sets of wires on it numbered 1-2-3-4!

Cheers,
Aaron

I used a nut to thread onto the injector
Now I can pry against the nut with a wrench and screwdriver. The injector pulled straight up this way.

Good work.

Wondering why you decided to change the injectors? Did they need replacing or did you just think it's good preventative maintainance?

I've got the magnecor wires too and i'm wondering if you've changed your coil and if so what coil did you use. I think we have the same setup with your car being an '82 and mine an '80.

Last thread on the subject of coils left me scratching my head.
