DuHamel replaces Elias for Laguna Seca MotoGP
by dean adams = Superbike Planet
Tuesday, July 03, 2007 Sources in Europe said today that none other than Miguel DuHamel will replace Toni Elias for the Laguna Seca MotoGP event later this month. Elias crashed at the recent Assen race and broke his leg, necessitating a replacement rider for the Fausto Gresini-run team. DuHamel, a former Superbike champion, may actually be more well-suited to current MotoGP machinery than some believe. Before he raced Superbikes in America, DuHamel was a terror in the AMA 250 ranks. If this development comes to fruition it could be a major PR boon for Laguna Seca as DuHamel is both immensely popular and a known entity to many of the California and national press.

Sounds like a big gamble. Can't believe they'd let an old guy like Miguel hop aboard their GP bike without lots of seat time. Miguel is damn good and I luv him (used to race his number), but there must be a reason he's not already in GP. Dean Adams always has the inside scoop, so who knows. I'd love to see Miguel do it, as long as he does a respectable job.

New update from Superbike Planet - It's confirmed!! How cool is that... Hope Miguel kicks some butt!
Friday, July 06, 2007 Former Superbike champion Miguel DuHamel got the call yesterday confirming that he will indeed race the Gresini Honda MotoGP bike at Laguna Seca. DuHamel will race both US Superbike and MotoGP at Laguna Seca. DuHamel said this morning, "I hope that my fans will come out and support me big at Laguna Seca. Thanks so much to everyone who made this possible. Special thanks to HRC and American Honda. I'll see you at Laguna Seca!" From Thursday: World SBK rider Michael Fabrizio will replace Toni Elias at the upcoming German Grand Prix at Sachsenring. |
