Tag Heuer; Good watches? Got an offer for Monaco WW2110.FC6177.

How are these watches? I like the design, and have been told they are built properly.

This is the one (the Monaco) and I was thinking it would look great on special occasions with black suit + tie combo:

http://g-ec2.images-amazon.com/image...BL._SS500_.jpg

I have although also heard that it's a big watch, not suitable for small wrists. Or perhaps it's just supposed to be "big"?

Also got an offer for this; Tag Heuer Carrera CV2011.FC6180

http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/...4L._SS500_.jpg

This would probably make a good daily?

I wasn't going to buy a watch now but I really like the charisma of these two.

They're nice watches. TAG Heuer have been getting back to making some nice watches lately, having focused more on style since taking over the Heuer company.

I don't know how much you're paying, but take a look here and see what they're going for:

Here's a couple I found with a quick search:

IMO and experience, I've owned 2 TAGHeuer watches, and they are great.

Work, play, sport, they seem to take a good beating, and they always look and perform 100%.

The Monaco and Monza are my favourites.....(and hopefully will be wearing one on my wrist soon!)

Thanks guys, a lot. I thought it was way cooler with the Carrera which have transparent glass on the back so one can actually see some of the mechanic bits. http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l1...DSC_0005-1.jpg

Good to hear they are of good quality.

Btw I'm paying 1.500 USD shipped for the Monaco I posted above and 2.000 USD shipped for the Carrera. Brand new, and cheaper compared to the Amazon.com and other website prices I have come across.

Not sure if I should go croc leather strap or steel though.

Nice watches HOWEVER, on the monaco, Tag uses a Mineral crystal instead of a sapphire crystal which is more commonly used and more preferred because its harder to scratch, however the mineral crystal is extremely easy to scratch (think plexi-glass). I know because i sell jewelry and we carry Tag as one of our lines. There is a model or two that do actually use the standard sapphire crystal (the Tiger woods gold edition and the $16,000 anny. edtion ) and I have called Tag and spoke to a billion tech people and they all insist that there is NO WAY to swap the sapphire crystal in instead of the mineral crystal. (the situation i gave them was to buy the watch as is, buy the crystal as a repair part, and then have them remove one and install the other - the measurements are not EXACTlY the same thus no go)

They also provided the reason for it being- to cut a sapphire crystal in the shape of the monaco is extremely hard. therefore mineral crystal is the best substitute. (a replacement crystal will run you a few hundred too)

hope that tid-bit helps

I have a small wrist, and won't wear an automatic watch as I want to wind my watch.
So I have been wearing this Heuer Carrera reissue for a couple of years and love it.

I am in the same boat automatic watches drive me crazy. Monaco is a beautiful watch. But I have a small wrist as well, it is simply to big and not comfortable for me. I would recommend going into a watch store and trying both on first.

I really want a Carrera. They are not too big. Tags are priced very well...do they retain their value?

I've owned 2 so far. I currently own the INDY 500/F1 chronograph edition, My last Tag lasted 13 years until it was stolen from a gym locker. They have to be one of the finest watch companies in the world.

I bought my grandpa a Tag Carrera (non-chronograph) for his 80th birthday. Really nice watch, felt solid, he loves it. I got it through an Authorized Dealer for 33% off. I doubt they hold their value as well as some other brands (Rolex, etc), but I'm no expert.

I love TAG's, you won't be disappointed with them.

they are not as flashy as Breitlings but they are just as good IMHO.

I wear a Panerai, so I'm used to big watches. I like the Monaco shown in the first post, and would definitely have one of those as well - probably in the black.

Isn't lucite just plastic?

Acrylic glass

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Perspex"

Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) or poly(methyl 2-methylpropenoate) is the synthetic polymer of methyl methacrylate. This thermoplastic and transparent plastic is sold by the tradenames Plexiglas, Limacryl, R-Cast, Perspex, Plazcryl, Acrylex, Acrylite, Acrylplast, Altuglas, Polycast and Lucite and is commonly called acrylic glass or simply acrylic. Acrylic, or acrylic fiber, can also refer to polymers or copolymers containing polyacrylonitrile. The material was developed in 1928 in various laboratories and was brought to market in 1933 by Rohm and Haas Company.
PMMA is often used as an alternative to glass, and in competition with polycarbonate (PC). It is often preferred on account of its moderate properties, easy handling and processing, and low cost.

Impact resistant substitute for glass:
PMMA Acrylic glass is commonly used for constructing residential and commercial aquariums.
PMMA is used in the lenses of exterior lights of automobiles. [4]
The spectator protection in ice hockey stadiums is made of PMMA.
Motorcycle helmet visors
Police vehicles for riot control often have the regular glass replaced with acrylic to protect the occupants from thrown objects.
Acrylic is used for viewing ports and even complete hulls of submersibles, such as the Alicia submarine's viewing spheres and the Bathyscaphe Trieste's windows.
Polycast acrylic sheet is the most widely used material in aircraft transparencies (windows). In applications where the aircraft is pressurized, stretched acrylic is used. It is used to form/make many things.

Why TAG makes the same body watch, one with sapphire and one with plastic, is beyond me. $165.00 for a replacement, what is the point?
I would rather have the sapphire and when I read about the watch the website indicated that it was sapphire. Only after I ordered a replacement did I discover that the only style that has the plastic crystal is the one that I purchased.

my first Tag lasted me 13 years until it was stolen, it was the best watch I ever owned. It went though hell with me, got scratched, damaged, etc.. but kept running. This is what it looked liked, btw does anyone know what series it was? I got it back in 1987.

Bump.

What's a fair price for a new Tag Monaco '69 (manual)? Any discounts on these?
