auto themed watches: just pulled the trigger...

Greetings;

just pulled the trigger on a GP Ferrari watch, a 275 LeMans, 1 of 2000, see pic below:

I am starting a modest automotive themed collection, one watch per year, reasonable budget. I already own a few random vintage watches. The most recent auto themed purchase is a Tag Carrera.
As they used to say in the old country, here is the 5 year plan.
http://www.guigui.com/watch.htm

In terms of higher end Pateks and others, I just cannot lift my leg that high (or, more accurately, I cannot explain it away to the Chief Family Officer). I had the Rolex Daytona on the list, but when I tried it on at Tourneau in SF, it just reeked of nouveax riche....sorry. The Breitling Bentley was just too huge for my wrist. Which left Chopard Mille Miglia, more Tags (Steve McqQeen Monaco), Omega Speedmaster, and the Panerai (the only auto connection is the fact that Jesse owns one, as reported by a fellow fchatter).

Any suggestions, in terms of watches related to the car world are welcome. I am sure I missed something.

strangely enough, it is a croc strap. Most of the ones I have seen are smooth rubber. I will probabaly try to get one from the local Neiman Marcus, as they handle GP. I am preparing myself for price shock.

thx

That is an absolute, knockout, drop dead GORGEOUS wristwatch. But I still think it should be named "250LM", not "275LM".

You've already got the Tag Monaco and Omega Speedmaster on your list, so I can't offer you any other suggestions. Maybe a Seiko Honda?

I nearly bought a GP Ferrari watch 2 years ago, but missed out on the one I wanted. It was the carbon fiber face/band chrongraph. I have a serious watch Jones myself, congrats on the new acquisition.

Ah, yes, the Chopard....
I am torn about which one. They have a current series with different colors (for each country's racing team), a lovely silver one, and most have the map on the back. And let us not forget the Dunlop tire thread band. Delicious. I think the Chopard will be my 2005 purchase.

Just wondering, is there a website dedicated to automotive inspired watches and other collectibles and memorabilia, or do you just browse manufacturers websites???
BTW, nice watches everyone, I personally love this one : http://lukekowalski.tripod.com/panerai2.jpg

no web site, as far as I know, but there was a short article in Automobile, I think. I knew about the Tag Monaco from LeMans (movie with McQueen). I have also seen their clocks in rally cars. Chopard sponsors the Mille Miglia, which I have seen in person (everything pales). GP sponsored Concorso Italiano a couple of times, so I saw the Ferrari line when I was showing my GT4...The Rolex Daytona is obvious.//

In most cases, it is (Heavy) advertising dollars at work. Just putting it together, and loosely at that.

The next watch I want is the Tag Carrera with the white face and the brown leather strap. Kinda Rolex Daytona like but without the Rolex look. Its starting to get bad, I'm seeing the same rolex day dates everywhere I look now. LOL

Chopard MM didn't look that good in person, but looks great in the pic by LukeK. I think I'll go check again. I also like their Happy Beach model w/ dolphin. Tiffany also released good looking chronograph, too.

I got a lamp when I first did a google image search on a tiffany t57....

(Seriously, I did find it at tiffany.com, and it is quite nice, IMO....it has a "machined" look to it, bordering on what I would call "layered deco". I like the fonts on the face, too.)

I used to have that famous poster of Audrey Hepburn at Tiffany's, you know the one....with the cig and the cup, hanging above my fireplace. They do not make them like that anymore (present company, my wife, excepted).

I thought some of you might be interested to see this one, pictured in "International Wrist Watch" #6, owned by "a gentleman who asked for the strictest anonymity".

Cool thread! I like watches too. :-)

I just bought a white Chopard Mille Miglia and I'm very happy with it!!
I took some quick pictures, but it's the same as in your post. (it's from 2000).

I also have a 70's Heuer Carrera Automatic Chronograph (calibre 15) with nice blue plate and the original box (looks great). This one is for sale now.

That Tiffany is WAY COOL! What's the band? It looks like metal.
