F40 crashed Cologne/Germany

Here is the original police press-report from Germany:

--------------
Charlottenstraße in Fahrtrichtung Luisenstraße.

beide Fahrtrichtungen gesperrt. (ms)

------------

The dude was totaly drunken and lost the controll of his F40.

I do not understand German, So I just relay on your english words. By the way it is good to see that someone could walk away from that in good health enough to fight with the Police. Ferrari are strong little ladies...
By the way I hope that this guy will spend the next period (longgggg one) in jail for:
- Being a total Idiot (Criminal offence by itself);
- Drink and Drive;
- Having destriyed un irreplaceable piece of art.
Ciao
Eugenio

Didn't Walter Röhrl total a freind's F-40 a few years back? I seem to recall it was the road's fault or the car's fault or the other driver's fault or the weather's fault. Certainly it wasn't Walter's fault as he was poodling along doing 45km/h and concentrating on the traffic and other road users at the time .... honestly, Officer!

Or am I confusing it with something written by the Grimm brothers?

Wolfgang,

That is a great story about that F40. Do I understand it right? Did the guy give the car away to the other fellow?

The normal German way is that, in the case of an insurance write-off, the insurance company pays the full value to the owner. The Insurance company then puts a "scrap" price on the article itself. This is usually very low, otherwise it would fall into the category of insurance corruption (i.e. the company has already admitted that the entire value of the car has been written off, so it can't then say that the car is worth something after all!)

Then anyone can buy the remains for this scrap value. Usually the owner gets first refusal as he knows when the insurance company has released the scrap for sale. As the article talks of a release by the insurance, this is probably what happened, non?

The fine dividing line is between an "engineering write off" (burned out and only scrap metal left) and an "economic write-off". This guy basically rebuilt it in his spare time. The insurance company, however, calculate the costs of those rebuild hours and write the car of financially.

OK... anyone willing to buy this F40 off the insurance then? IT would be a fantastic F-chat restoration project. Anyone brave enough? I am willing to help with the work, seriously.

Regarding the driver: TOTAL IDIOT. Everyone knows the F40 is a very difficult car even when you are sober and the roads are sunny & warm - to even think of driving one when it's winter, cold, icy AND you are totally drunk means you don't deserve such a car.

I bet it was his dad's hard-earned car, this idiot probably never worked a day in his life and is probably one of those idle rich kids that spend their lives sponging off cash & nice cars from their rich parents. I hope nobody will ever let him near a supercar again.

Environmental laws in Germany (although not quite as bad as Scandinavia!) would probably have meant it was cheaper to rebuild than to scrap! LOL!

don't judge so hard over this drunken fool, he is punished enough and we don't know what really happened.
Wonder if Christian could rebuild this car as well.
The roof and frame seems to be smashed so nasty

Yes - what a tragedy... I really don't give a damn for the moron behind the wheel, but weep for the car. A sad day, and you hit the nail on the head Eugenio - "an irreplaceable work of art".

NOW...I like the idea of an F-Chat project!! Wolfgang - find out more if you can, I'm sure that an F-Chat syndicate could sponsor a rebuild by Herr Fehr! It would be great to part of the resurection of such a rare beauty.

Cheers, MARK
