San Diego Car Show Pictures 1/29/05!!

I had an absolute blast hanging out with the San Diego crew today. The turnout was pretty amazing considering the inagural status of the show and I have no doubt it will do anything but continue to grow as word gets out. There was a diverse mix of cars, Panteras, Porsches, Vipers, Lotus, Ferrari, etc. I had the pleasure of meeting many people for the first time and appreciate all the time everyone spent to talk to me and share their experience with me. A couple of highlights from the event...One man brought a really nice track prepped Lotus Esprit S2. He shared lots of infortmation about the car with me and even allowed me to try and squeeze myself into the racing seat...Difficult, but it made for a funny series of pictures!

Probably the best highlight for me though was when Justin (Vantage) very graciously offered to take me for a ride in the Elise! Ever since Ive fallen in love the Elise Ive been dreaming of experiencing one. When the time came, however, Justin even let me drive it! Driving the Elise was simply an incredible experience...No car Ive ever driven (not counting the Enzo since I was too scared to remember it) handled like the Elise did. The steering was just absolutely perfect...tight, responsive, and direct. I never got on the car too hard but even still I got the impression that the Elise would just absolutely eat up the corners on the race track or your favorite windy road. There is a quote from a Top Gear episode in which Jeremy Clarkson says that the steering in the Elise was so responsive that he could feel whether or not the paint on the roadway was enamel or gloss, whether the bug he just ran over was 6 or 8 legged, and I can completely sympathize with his statement. The steering isnt power assisted, but its weight is just perfect...not too light, nor too heavy...just perfect.

The driving position was impeccable, the power very adequate, and the car perfectly planted and balanced on the road. The steering? Perfect...The drive was amazing and exciting and I honestly cant thank Justin for being so kind as to let me do it. He was not only patient, encouraging, and generous, but he served a perfect model for me to emulate. Thank you again, Justin!

The steering was incredible, by the way.

Thanks again everybody, and it was a pleasure seeing and meeting you all!

Lastly, no great San Diego trip road trip can be complete without the "nipples"

Jordan,

Great pics man! Those pics of you getting in the S2 came out great.

For a first time meet, the turn out was simply fantastic! I met all kinds of very nice people (Rick, Justin, Roger -he came on a Ducatti 996, sorry if I got the name wrong) and had some great conversations about cars and track driving!

I cannot wait until the next meet, I'm going to try and get some BMW M owners up there so I'm not alone next time.

Great meeting you all, hope to see you again in one month.

Jordan,

Thanks for showing up and making the drive. Now, we expect you to drive down every month.

Hey Ben, who did the clear mask on your CGT?

Thanks, I got tired of my car sounding so non-Ferrari. I'm not sure what Freud would have called it, but the old 12 cylinder cars and the new eights with Tubi's and Capristo's are soooooo much better sounding than the modern 12's so I decided to do something. At first, I thought about a Tubi or Fuchs etc, but decided based on some sound files, I could do better. So over the hoidays, I removed the center resonator, bought a stainless X-Pipe )(, some U-Pipes, sheet metal, Stainless hardware and the best pre-fab's stainless tips I could buy locally. Together with help from some local exhaust shops, I managed to get it built and installed. BTW, the CATS are still in place in order to be emmisson friendly.

This is a picture of the tips which replaced the rear muffler boxes. These bolt and clamp into the exisitng Ferrari system. Tubi calls it their "tube only" option, that can be yours for over 2K USD, mine cost a fraction of that to make and install.

PS, If I get a chance, I'll post a sound file.

Hey Christian, the 575 rims look sweet on your 456. Are they the 19"rims, or the 18" inchers. They really update the appearance of the car.

Next San Diego Meeting

What do you guys thinking about having a standing meeting - Say 7 am on the last Saturday of the month? (This was the 5th Saturday - that won't happen often!).

Can we go with that as a schedule? I thought the location was good too!

New wheels look fantastic on the 456. I look forward to hearing the car having seen your post about the exhaust mods.

Cheers

F456 V12: Fantastic! I love it when people put their brains to work and come up with something like you have. God, I still cannot believe the sound that your car made/makes. The only way that I realized that I was spinning over 6,000 in my M3 when I was behind you was by looking at my tach. I couldn't hear my own engine two feet away from me! Just freaking great!

RickDay246: Nice meeting you, I love your 348 Spyder. I think that we should make this a monthly meet -on the fourth Sunday of every month at 7:00am.

As for a name, what do you all think of the San Diego Carlsbad Car Meet -aka SDCCM?

A sound file would be great. Any pic of the back of the car with the new exhaust? I love the 575 rims, great job uncorking the potential of the 456.

It was nice meeting you as well. That was my brother Rob on the 998, by the way.

I could go for last Saturday of the month - sometimes 4th, sometimes 5th. But if we just say last Saturday, it's less confusing.

Next time I'll take you for a spin before we leave.
