5th Avenue rocks
I don't know how I didn't notice this in my nearly 10 years of driving in NYC, but whereas Lex and 2nd avenues times the lights to keep you at the 30 mph speed limit, 5th ave does no such thing.....when you hit a green, you can blast down at 60+mph and hit greens the whole way down. What's more, there's often less traffic on 5th than any of the other avenues...
That friggin' rocks! I made it from 65th st to 8th street in less than 5 minutes the other night. How did I not notice this earlier in my driving life? That is all. nlh |

Done it many times, but only really late night or really early morning, bc there are generally way too many cars on it.
And, watch those deep manholes! Almost took out a tire/rim last week on 5th Ave. One of these late nights, we've got to do another Manhattan rally: West Side Hwy to FDR. Only thing is that for a repeat, we've gotta find some more pretty triplets somewhere...

fWeRF.. best late at night or early morning.
otherwise watch out for the people crossing the avenue on 34th/42nd street and also the cops stationed both streets. last year got a speeding ticket and no front plate ticket from a cop on 34th street. he saw i was speeding down, pulled me over on 26th st. |

I figured that out too recently, unfortunately from the back of a cab with a maniac driver!

I went down it from Carnagie last night. *way* too much traffic. But there isn't much to compare with driving through time square all lit up
