2nd Annual NE Ferrarichat BBQ - SAT 23 JUL

Since we had so much fun last year, I'm a gonna host a BBQ again this year.

Enjoy a drive thru back-roads in north-central MA to Groton. Then visit with fellow FChat members & enjoy some of the best BBQ & other food you've ever eaten. Last year produced some real culinary treats, so we'll do it that way again. For those who've joined since last summer, here's last year's BBQ thread, we had a great turnout:
http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthr...&highlight=bbq

Feel free to organize in-route meeting places & caravans.

I need a headcount by 1 Jul so I can get the brisket & ribs ordered.

Given the size of the event, & to keep the preparation load down to something I can pull off, I'm again asking for volunteers to bring some of the menu items (see MENU below).

DATE & TIME:
Sat. 23 JUL 1:30 PM til I decide it's bedtime, or the mosquitos start draging people down the hill. It'll be OK to arrive early, but you may get put to work setting up or watching something cook ;^)

BTW, I'll be timing the ribs & brisket to be done about 2:00.

RAIN DATE:
Sunday, 24 JUL. Same time & place.

DIRECTIONS:
Please attach a reply to this thread, AND send end eMAIL with your official RSVP to:

BBQ@UnobtainiumSupply.com

I will use your eMAIL to put together a mailing list & send out directions.

MENU
-------

Drinks:
- Iced Tea - I'll supply a gallon or so, will also have a couple of big coolers w/ ice down the drinks. Wouldn't hurt if someone brought another large cooler or 2.
- Large sodas - Any volunteers to pick up an ass't(coke, diet coke, ginger ale, orange,Dr Pepper...) of 2-liter bottles?
- Booze: You're welcome to BYOB, or make arrangements with someone for a quantity buy.

Chips, Salsa, Dip(s), Crudetes, cheese chunks, other nibbles - Need volunteers?

Brisket & Ribs - Of course, I will provide & smoke.

Pinto Beans - I will make up a big pot.

Cornbread - Anyone have a great recipe? How about some Jalapino corn bread?

Potato Salad - Need ~4 pounds, any volunteer(s)?

Cole Slaw - Need ~5 pints, any volunteers?
(BTW, Col. Sanders makes a very good cole slaw, but if you have a secret recipe & want to make it...)

Fixings:
- BBQ Sauce - Verell will supply a couple of bottles: 1 sweet & 1 tangy, If you have a favorite, bring it & we'll have a tasting.

- Sliced Videlia onions for sandwiches, Sliced Jalapeno peppers, pickles, other condiments... Any volunteeer(s)

- Videlia onions - Peeled Halves for grilling, Need a volunteer to bring 8 or 10 onions. These need to be pre-peeled & arrive about 1:00 so they'll be done with the rest of the meal.

- Sandwich bread - need a couple of loaves, Any volunteers?

- Dessert - Any volunteers?

- Any other food you might be inspired to bring & share.

GRILLs:
Will have a will have a medium-sized grille if you want to do something like hot dawgs, or Veggie Burgers. Also, the big Weber grill will be available after the ribs come off, you're welcome to throw something on it.

CHILDREN:
Sure, the little ones are welcome.
Caveat: My sons are grown & moved out so there's no recreation eqpt. (swings, pool, etc.) for them to play on/with. However, there's a big yard & woods to explore, & we're safely away from the road. You'll be responsible for keeping an eye on them.

P-cars & other lesser makes ;^) I suppose if it's a significant one like the superlight 911 that came last year, or the only thing you have to drive, we'll find a place for it around back... ;^)

TOWING:
Please notify me in advance if you're planning to break down enroute so I can have phone #s, etc. ready so you can call for towing... Don't just arrive broken down & surprise everyone like a certain Down Easterner did last year... ;^)

Verell, great to see you, albeit briefly, at Tutto. Just fyi, the July 22-24th weekend is also the weekend of the FCA Burlington VT Ferrari Festival, to raise money for the King Street Youth Center. We'll be giving underprivileged kids rides during a parade, then park in the center of Burlington for a few hours for a car show. Dunno how much overlap there will be, but, alas, I'll probably be in VT (all of these FChat events seem to overlap with something, darn it!).

vty,

--Dennis

Hmmm, Verell or VT event. Not sure, but tentatively put myself and my gal down Verell and we can bring wine/whisky/whatever. The VT event is kinda close to me my new place... sorta... kinda.

Then again if all the NH/MA guys are doing Verells (highly likely) i'll go there. Show and shine events bore me and i send checks to various good causes anyway.

My apologies for being blunt.

Sorry about the conflict w/Burlington FCA event, sounds like it's for a good cause.

This is only weekend I could make work this summer. Aug. is blown because the kitchen is being remodeled. Rest of JY is full.

Verell,
I'll be there! Just tell me what you want me to bring and I will bring it. I am happy to make my "secret recipe" cornbread for you again. I can modify the recipe with more sugar to make Cindy happy too!

I'm trying to decide which car needs more work so it can break down at your house. (heh heh heh !)

I'll be there, but I suppose this "Downeaster" will be driving a sedan from Asia!! No need to temp fate?

This year, I'll bring the onions ready for the grill- my own special recipe.

Birdman- you have to bring the Mondial. I mean really- who cares about "another" 308 anyway?

Verell- thanks for organizing this again, and I promise to leave in the car I arrive in....

Looking forward to it,
jwise

Cool

Verell....

Sounds great! I'll be there with my buddy Bryan! Let me know what you still have on your "Food to bring to Verell's" list. I'll bring whatever you need.

Thanks - Brandon

Great!!!
We're getting some momentum going!!

Don't forget to send me eMAIL with BBQ in the subject so I can get you on the mailing list for directions & final planning.

BTW, will be out of state until after 27-June, so will probably not be able to post anything. Most likely will be week of 4-JUL before I send out 1st eMAIL.

darn ...

Verell -

As has already been pointed out, this is the same weekend as the Burlington, VT event. Most likely Vallerie and I will be there, but if for some reason we decide not to go to Burlington, I'll let you know.

Too bad, we had a good time at your place last year.

Jeff

i haven't chimed in 'cuz i haven't known for sure what my schedule was going to be. as it turns out, i have a family event planned for the 23rd, so i won't be able to make it. never enough hours in the week.

very frustrating - 'cuz i'd sell my grandmother for your BBQ dude ;-)

Watch this space, I'll be posting an updated list of who's bringing what & what's still not signed up for.

So far I've only received a handfull of RSVPs from the usual suspects who've posted below, & from the food volunteers listed earlier in this thread. Is this a really bad day for a lot of you?

If you're coming, please post a response & send me eMAIL with the subject 'FerrariChat BBQ' in the subject (I've got a filter that puts it in a special folder so it doesn't get mixed up with other email). I'll use your eMAIL addresses to send directions.

Btw, One of the non-member guests is a mechanic who worked for the NE Ferrari dealership from the late '70s thru the 80s. Fully factory trained!

Does that mean you won't be in the garage with a car on the lift for the afternoon this year (or at least not by yourself) ?

Count on more 2 arriving by TR.

BBQ

Verell,
Elaine and I will be attending. Had a great time last year. I can come by in the AM and help you set up. I can bring over extra chairs, coolers, table if you need them and of course my gas grill is available. Let me know what you need me to bring for food also.
This year I'm even brining the F-car

Verell It was great meeting you and the rest of the guys at Birdmans place.

I will do my best to make it there. I think if I practice in the morning I can leave the track by noon and still be there with Chili in hand for the BBQ.

I hope the 2 of you were not up too late spraying last night.

Thanks

Scott
