348s lurve Spain...

... and Spain loves 348s, look they even named a beach after the car

Seriously though, got back earlier this afternoon after a fantastic run down to Nerja on the Costa del Sol. Fantastic roads, and i mean faaantastic! The new Peage (toll) south of Madrid, at one point you could see for about 5 miles... and it was very straight and VERY empty!

Sooo, now the car is back, and... like I have mentioned before, it has to be sold. There is no way I can save the extra cash for a 512TR while I have a Ferrari sat in the garage waiting to be driven every weekend

So, a few minor jobs to do before it goes and hopefully someone can either help or point me in the right direction:

1 - I took a stone through the r/h main headlamp early hours yesterday - does anyone know a source of either second hand or cheaper than main dealer price lens units?

2 - and this is a wierd one... someone who shall remain nameless, slammed the passenger door the first time they got out of the car, and said, "ooh, what's this"? the lock barrel from the passenger (L/H) door had popped out... like how can a lock barrel just pop out??? So I put it back in, all worked as normal, but being a complete numpty that I am, instead of just putting it in my pocket until I could get it sorted properly... yep, it's gone! I presume the barrels are not Ferrari manufactured items, but where can i get a replacement? Do I even need one (lets face it, when was the last time you used your passenger door lock?) Can you get blanking plates for it? Open to suggestions guys.

Then it's a choice of either getting it serviced and the front end painted before I sell it, or allowing for that work and offerring it at £2-3K less. If you were a potential buyer what would you rather have? A car with nothing to do at market price of £36k or one that you can get serviced at your own dealer and either do the front end now or later, but only pay say £33k? Not sure best course of action.

I supopose I'd better go and write the "for sale" ad now

Firstly, may I say on behalf of everyone on Fchat...where the f*** are the pics of the sexy women on the beach.

For what it's worth, if I was to buy a car, I would like everything to be sorted before hand and obviously from a reputable dealer. Even then I'd still have a PPI done anyway. Even though I would'nt use the passenger lock, I would expect to have one there and not a blank plate.

But then, I'm a pedantic little sod!

Shame about you selling the car..............

I know, the question has been asked already, unfortunately i didn't have a camera to hand when she decided she wanted to adorn my bonnet for the benefit of her boyfriend's camera. I was actually sat 100 yards away having a cup of coffee wishing my remote would work from that distance so I could at least give her a jump of some description

I know what you mean about the blank plate, it's just frustration that I'm going to have to spend money on something that is never going to be even used!

And also, whereas you would like everything sorted, as would I probably, some people are happy to save the cash and sort it themselves in their own time and way, take SteveW for example. He would quite happily take a car requiring a few jobs if the price reflected that.

And don't worry, the only reason I'm selling is so that i can somehow get into a 512TR.

Not to depress you any further, but I recently asked a main dealer about fitting two new locks and ignition to my car. Labour alone was over £700.

I'm pretty sure the vast majority of buyers will want it sorted. Several reasons:

1) Hassle factor of getting it done.
2) Who knows what else will be found you have a service.
3) Who knows whether 3k will cover it.
4) Hassle factor.

You may fall lucky - it's a lovely car in an unusual spec. But few will look beyond the faults and they'll batter you on price even IF you get it fixed after they've seen it!

Sy - you had no need to qualify your statement with pedantic.

PS I'd also take the Pistonheads sticker off. But then I'm a pedantic big sod.

Yep, the P.Heads stickers will be coming off with careful use of a hairdryer!

Sy, there is hardly any labour in fitting the door locks. Like I said, it literally popped out and popped back in again. I think one of the little retaining lugs must have broken or something.

Protein's well known to help in the height stakes (not to mention girth).

Suggest you get down for a few happy meals before you meet Chaa, Sy

Incidentally, where the Ilford massif when we needed a point man?

Al, sorry to see the car going as it is an absolute peach! Hope you can get the same noise on a 512 as you have on the Spider!

I don't post here often but I'm searching for a 348 (but red I'm affraid) and I would say offer the buyer the option. If they can see the car as it stands they will know exactly what you are going to do to it, then they can choose if they can live with stone chips etc. and save a bit of cash.

It also might help when someone makes you an offer, you can start to accept a lower offer by saying you won't have certain jobs done.

Just my thoughts & good luck with the sale.

Cheers, that's what I was thinking. Apart from these few minor flaws the car really is a good one, looks fantastic and sounds awesome. I have also done 13,000 miles in the last 11 months including two European trips. I would hope that that would count some way to reassuring people on any mechanical worries a new prospective owner might have.

I couldnt agree more (but just IMHO), so best to get the service done I think. I would never risk buying a Ferrari that was due a service, simply because every single service Ive had (five I think?) have shown up other small common problems that it was best to address to keep it perfect. Each small problem usually amount to £££+++

If you remember Al, when you bought the car off me I included the cambelt service and 12months MOT in the price. I personally think that this the way to sell such specialist cars, as people who are maybe first time buyers (like you were) need that extra piece of mind when parting with the folding!
As it turned out, the car was and still is everything I described it would be, so if there are any potential purchasers who want to speak to the previous owner the please feel free!

I just put up a couple of pics in the original thread on the subject, in the classics section.
