MY FERRARI: STOLEN AND RECOVERED!!!

The nightmare draws to an end. Here's what happened.

Brad, a good friend of mine at work (3000+ Apache hours), made a call to the president of a local Boise sports car club asking him to tell his members to be on the lookout for a red 308. On this gentleman's (the club president) way home, he spots a red 308 parked in front of a used car dealer in Garden City, Idaho. He calls 911, explains the situation including the case # and detective assigned to the case; same information the detective approved me to release. The police surround the place with multiple cruisers. The "suspect," who I will affectionately address as the "stinky, maggot-infested, dope smoking, good for absolutely nothing POS," sees the police, panics, jumps in the 308 and in the process of fleeing rams a police cruiser. The stinky, maggot-infested, dope smoking, good for absolutely nothing POS is currently in custody at the local Boise PD. I spoke with the detective, asked him to offer my most sincere thank you to all of those involved with the apprehension; himself included, of course. He said the FBI, not Boise PD, would handle the stolen helmet since that was federal property. The helmet's price tag of about $15K, made that a felony as well. I also asked if there was anyway he could pass along a few words to the stinky, maggot-infested, dope smoking, good for absolutely nothing POS. He said, "go ahead." I wanted to let him know I am simply a guard pilot deploying to Afghanistan, with a simple love affair with these little cars from Italy, and decided to get and enjoy one as much as I could before I left for sixteen fricking months and that I hope he rots in jail while I'm away. The detective said he'd be happy to pass it along. I virtually begged for him to subpoena me just so I could confront the stinky, maggot-infested, dope smoking, good for absolutely nothing POS.

Now, the damage you ask? When I heard, "rammed a police cruiser." I thought, "oh, sh--." Brad, who knows cars BTW and is a proud, proud owner of a 92 NSX, said I have about $3-5K in damage. Brad said the cruiser was in worse shape than the 308! Yeah, 308's are tough. My baby hit the cruiser doing no more than about 10mph; a good indication of how fast the police responded. I asked how much fluid was out of the radiator. He said, "none" and went on further to explain that the car is still driveable and was as clean as the day I left it! It looks like I'll need at least a new front bonnet, a set of left side cooling louvers (the ones behind the headlights) and bumper. Now, this is where I need some advice from you guys (at least for now). There is damage to the front left side of the car where a normal quarter panel would sit. I'm assuming I'll need an entirely new front end since 308s don't have quarter panels, is that correct? Based upon Brad's initial inspection, the wheels are straight and the frame is NOT bent. Again, I place 110% of my trust in Brad's knowledge.

The police are taking my poor, ol' girl to their lot tonight for processing. Brad is going to pick her up tomorrow and take her to a "highly secured facility."

Folks. I'm fixing 37383. She's been through alot her 24 plus years of existence. You'd think making it to 95K+ miles and still running and looking as good as she does are, in themselves, achievements. Then, to go through this...Ol' 37383 is going to come out looking better than she ever did. She deserves it. She's a Ferrari.

I would like to, again, THANK ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT, HUMOR, AND ENCOURAGING WORDS. Family first, health always, Forza Ferrari.

Dane

Great news!!!!!

I'm glad to hear your car was recovered. I have no idea what it must have been like for you not knowing where it was or what was being done to it, especially having a car that is actually enjoyed as much as yours is.

This terrible incident will probably become another part of your car's colorful history.

First, THANK YOU for your service to your country. May God watch over you, your family and your fellow servicemen (and women) while you are deployed in harm's way. Godspeed.

Second, congratulations on the safe recovery of your Ferrari. I'm so happy for you, and glad that the stinky, maggot-infested, dope smoking, good for absolutely nothing POS is going to jail.

Good luck and have a safe deployment.

Awesome story!! Well the ending at least!!!

I am glad to hear you will be fixing her up. But the damages will be more than 3-5K I would say. That entire front piece(s) will set you back that alone. Then there is frame straightening (those corner impacts will usually cause a LITTLE frame-work).

I am SO glad you got her back!! I remembered your story of when you got your car in the first place. I was looking for an FCar myself and remembered how jealous I was when you found yours, just because of the condition alone and the smiles on your face!! I admit I was jealous!! ;-)

That is one good looking car and will continue to be. I must say, I am glad that helmet was in there to "sweeten the pot"!!!

Such poetic justice that the douchbag has the balls to steal a Ferrari and then gets another felony tacked on!!! Awesome.

Then he is actually driving the thing?? Thank the Lord that 99% of criminals are IDIOTS. I cannot believe that he was dumb enough to drive the thing. IN broad daylight. In fricken Idaho??!!!

Ha!!!

Do you think he used heel/toe when he had it for those few days?? ;-)

By the way, I think I remember you saying that this brought to the end your Ferrari-owning days....

Sounds like you have changed your mind??? Awesome!!!

Thanks for letting us know how it turned out.
I hope the human debris that did this to you gets more than what the gang on Fchat would like to do to him.
I hope the Feds put him through hell!!!

Glad to hear you got her back!

Good luck with the repairs.

The theif has to be a moron cruising around in a RED FERRARI, thinking he will go un-noticed.

I hope they throw the book at him.

Tack on attempted aggravated assault on the police, felony evading and a few other charges I am sure.

Too bad they didn't just blow his worthless brains out then and there, but then you would haave a extra mess to clean up.

Good you got your car back, might check for a clean used front clip, yes they are one piece with both fenders, a shop may be able to cut one off.
Replace the bumpers with glass Euro shells if damaged and maybe a Euro valance if needed as well. Good luck

Congrats on getting your car back man. I tell ya, I wouldn't mind having some time alone with the "stinky, maggot-infested, dope smoking, good for absolutely nothing POS" myself.

F*ing people think they can claim property on anything nice they see on the street, it just boils my blood like crazy.

Foremost, THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for doing what you do. My dad recently retired from the service (US Navy) after 24 years, and I remember just how bad it sucked when he would be deployed overseas for months/year at a time with barely any contact. I never knew just how he managed to do it. I'm sure your family thinks the same of you. Your a real hero, and we respect you above all else.

...Glad to hear you got the 308 back! I'm sure you feel the same now as when you first bought it.

Congratulations!
