Oct 23 Sierra drive report

Cars:

Yellow 360 F1 tubi
TDF Blue 360
2 x Ford GT
3 x Elise
modded silver Porsche 911 (looked awesome, didn't get a chance to speak with the owner to find out more about this car)
blacked-out 911
2 Vipers
Lotus Esprit Turbo with extras
red 355 tubi

Left 9:30 AM, got back around 5:30 PM. A lot of wheel time!

Too bad that lots of the regular guys did not show up (due to many time conflicts). Next time we'll light a fire under 'em!

After the Sunday drivers pulled over to let us by, we got some good speed runs in (Morman Immigrant Trail, Hwy 88 through Silver Lake, 89 over Moniter Pass, then 395 to Bridgeport). Nothing outrageous, just some 50-80 bursts, etc (well mabye a little over 80). Unfortanately the Sheriff was waiting for us at the gas station in Markleeville...had a little talk with us. He basically asked us (very politely) to cool it...said the CHP was buzzing around and someone had called to complain (not sure how they called, no phone service around there...do people still use CB's?) Mr. Sheriff also mentioned a website devoted to Alpine county driving runs and said "out of hand" car club runs are common problem in his area...he even mentioned a CHP chopper sometimes helps enforce the speed limit (I've never seen a chopper in that area but we had to call his bluff I suppose). So we drove conservatively most of the rest of the trip, half because we didn't want a ticket and half out of respect for his politeness! It would be embarassing to get a ticket after being warned earlier in the day. Still, a great drive, perfect weather, good food, nice people. Just curious: does anyone know about the Alpline County driving website?

Thanks to everyone for coming!

Please post or PM me suggestions for future routes...maybe we better lay off this last route for a little while.

Maybe our next run can be a short 1 hour loop...more people likely to participate.

I'm ready for the next run...

Ernie,

Thank you VERY much for the beautifully-planned, scenic, and spirited run! Everyone was great! Friendly, courteous drivers, the works. Colin, Tony and I (the three Elises) all felt very welcome and enjoyed the drive immensely.

This was the first attack on twisties I've had with my Elise, and I came home in utter shock of what it was capable of. (And it has trunk space, too! )

I took some pictures, but nothing that all the others who came didn't already have. But if anyone wants them, just PM me and I'll send 'em along!

Thanks again, and I'll be there next time!

Yeah, I thought that was stretching the truth a little Sunday. That was a great run, that is the sports car drivers road... if all those campers and SUV's were locked out Excellent run Ernie!

Actually, Colin pointed out a CHP chopper keeping an eye on us on 50 near El Dorado Hills. Funny, though - at that point, we were stuck in all the return-from-Tahoe traffic, and weren't going all that fast...
