well mine will probably be one of them. now that the election is over the govt. can safely announce that we have lost the remainder of the contract to another interstate company and that there will be job losses without recrimination. there is going to be a glut in the market here for sure.

heh that's sorta what i was alluding to.

jeez, on paper guys like me are obviously dime-a-dozen... looked at an NZ job i could do easy as pie:
###############
Web Dev project experience
Be well organised & work independently
PHP
MySQL
Apache
ASP
SQL
Flash
VBA
Experience with Microsoft IIS and ISA
Graphic skills , e.g. Fireworks or Photoshop
###############

then saw this: Starting Salary up to $NZ40K .... is that per quarter?

couldn't be bothered looking through the 2 million other jobs, saw a couple in sydney CBD for $70k, can you even survive there on that? suffice to say i don't want to be werking for someone for the rest of my life....

there was a cartoon doing the rounds here a little while ago of an EDS board meeting. i think the chairman was saying something along the lines of - "our employees are our best asset - lets sell them!!!"

very, very touchy subject in this building at the moment. part of the original SA Govt. contract was that all the SAG network must be supported within south australia. the current labour govt. doesnt care who/what/where/service levels etc. the new SA Govt. contract has been decided purely on $$$.

What a difference 6 months makes in the IT world. Last June when we were looking for staff, the quality of the applicants was sh1t and they wanted a fortune. Now the quality of the applicants is a quantum greater and they are prepared to accept less money than 18months ago. I don't know exactly what happened, but I'm loving it. We had one engineer for four years. Would only do the bare minimum, always taking sickies, wouldn't do paid training out of hours to enhance his skills etc. Warned him for years, he foolishly thought he would get a job easily if we fired him because of his years of experience. 4 months later he's still unemployed, as is the comms engineer we let go before Christmas. The replacement staff are much more intelligent, better skilled and cheaper.
