Hey, this is great!!! I hope this gets as big as FChat because I have a lot of questions.
I just got my private in April and my multi in May. I fly a Beechcraft Duchess. (When it is not grounded, long story about brakes tomorrow.) |

Hi everyone, Simon also from Fchat. I seem to be the only one here with no PPL but planes and cars have always interested me. My passion has always been military and classic aircraft. Grew up in parts of the UK where the RAF and the USAF regularly said hello in there Jaguars, Tornadoes, Hercules, Vulcans, A110's and the rest.
Cheers Simon |

Hi everyone, another Fchat member here. I don't have a PPL YET but it is near the top of my list of things to do when I finish school and have the money to do it. (with skydiving being at the top) My pops had a PPL and used to take me up all the time when I was younger and I loved it. I have a little of stick time in C-152s, C-172s, and C-182s.

Hey guys, Ryalex here. No flight qualifications, but my father is RCAF so I've spent time around airbases, and the family farm is adjacent to the county airport where I did Air Cadets for a while.

Yup, another F-chatter here. I'm a graphic artist and Macintosh techie in NY. I've been nuts about planes, trains and automobiles since I was very young. I'm not a pilot (yet) but hope to get there someday (like, when the money tree in my backyard starts bearing fruit). Of course, I'm also hoping to someday acquire a red/tan 1985 US spec Ferrari 308, but that's a story for the "other" chat site.
My time as PIC is very limited but I have one cool story. A few years ago, through a very good connection, I was treated to sit in on a training session at JFK's flight simulator facility. Yeah, the "real", full-size simulators! At the time, it was owned by TWA. There was a pilot transitioning from a 7x7 to the 747 so they were doing some basic work in the 747 sim. It was not a full motion sim, but it had the complete cockpit setup. I got to sit in the "jumpseat" while the session was going on. When it ended, the instructor offered me the opportunity to take the front left seat. I got to fly the "Canarsie" approach into Kennedy Int'l... at NIGHT! I had mentioned to the instructor that I have years of "Flight Simulator" under my belt. So as I began the approach, the instructor blurted out: "Windshear!" To which I responded by lowering the nose and sliding the throttles forwards. The instructor was amazed that I handled the situation properly. Well, I've "practiced"! Now the Canarsie approach is pretty cool as it requires a 90 degree turn to the right onto short final at JFK's 13L. You need to turn at the right moment. I was a little slow and had to correct back to the left. I was truly surprised at the inertia the 747 exhibits in a turn. It really will SLIDE laterally through the turn because of all that inertial mass! That's one thing that "Flight Simulator" doesn't quite capture. Anyway, I did manage to set the jet down, albeit, partially on the grass. I was on the reversers and standing on the brakes with the jet coming to a slow stop. I was disappointed with the result as I had hoped to nail the centerline. That lousy turn did me in. The instructor was like "Wow! You learned to fly on a COMPUTER????" I was like, "....yeah." My total flight time was about 7 or 8 minutes but it was as close to flying a real 747 that I'll ever get. |

Been around aircraft just about all my life but I hate flying. My father flew in the Air Force. I currently work on A-10A Warthogs as an Air Force Reserve Technician (ART) and have been working A-10As since 1989. Worked F-4Ds, C-5As and Global Hawk as a an ART. Love watching aircraft fly because it simply amazes me to see all that metal, glass, rubber, fluids and a big sack of fecal matter moving together thru the air at high rates of speed. Simply amazing!

Another transplant from Fchat. I live in Kennesaw, Ga. Been flying since April of "97". Did my first flight in a PA-28-140 (Warrior) and got the bug. By the end of "97" I had all of my ratings except the ATP. It took a lot of hard work and some serious flying. By April of "98" I was Working as a CFI at my local airport. I did that for about two years and landed a corporate job flying the 690A Turbo Commander. I Flew the Commander single pilot for a few years and about 2000 hours. In July of "04" I got my ATP and last January landed my current job with Flightworks. I am typed in Citation series and I am assigned as a dedicated crewmember in the Bravo. I also Sub in the II and the V when they are short handed. I fly a little over 700hrs a year PT135 and a few hours PT91. I don't do much recreational flying because the last thing I want to see is an airplane when I'm off.

Hi folks!
Great to see so many of you maniacs from the "Dark Side of the Force!" i.e. F-Chat. Like Rob, it's been flying and Ferrari's since I was learnin' how to add. I fly AH-64A Apache's. I used to fly Blackhawks but jumped at the chance to shoot stuff and break things. I'm tradin' in greens for tans as I've been mobilized for deployment to Afghanistan. I'm excited for the chance to feel like I actually served my country; first time after ten years of wearing the uniform. No doubt, I'll miss my wife and kids but a year for a lifetime in this country is a fair trade. Thanks Rob, great work, and to those who've joined, I look forward to learning from you and having some laughs. Dane |

I noticed the Fairbanks address. I'm assuming you're with the 4-123d? If so, I flew with the -60 unit there from '96 to '98. Froze my tail off!! Let me know. I'd like to hear about things up there, again. Dane (flew 60s but transitioned to 64s a year ago) |

Hi everyone,
I also made it here from FerrariChat.com (308 GTB). It was my Uncle Leo who got me interested in aviation. He was a Marine pilot in WWII and had a Piper Cub in the 1960s. I was the only one willing to fly with him. I earned my Private Pilot ASEL rating in October, 1991 (Piper Cherokee) and my instrument rating in April, 1994 (Grumman Tiger). My Complex Endorsement in the Rockwell Commander followed a year later. I think Rob's new endeavor with this website will be fun and I'm looking forward to sharing experiences in our common interest. I'll say! It gives up a few knots for a wide cabin with plush seats. The cruciform tail puts the horizontal stabilizer in marginal propwash so that little or no trimming is necessary with power changes (it makes a nice umbrella too) and the trailing link suspension makes every landing smooth. And it looks nice!

The Commander originated with Rockwell International who was responsible for the P-51 Mustang. Notice the similar laminar flow wing:

Steve,
Yes, the Tiger is pretty slippery owing to its bonded, rivetless, aluminum wing skins. Top speed @ Sea Level 148 kt I would flight plan for 140 kt @ 75% power Vso 54 KIAS Vs 57 KIAS Vr 50-55 KIAS Vx 70 KIAS Vy 90 KIAS Cruise Climb 90 KIAS Normal Approach 70 KIAS Va 112 KIAS Best Glide 72 KIAS Vne 172 knots KIAS Engine Lycoming O-360-A4K Power 180 hp Max R.P.M. 2700 Barry |
