Smile Retired Ferrari Challenge Race

If you want to exercise your "retired" challenge car, the Italian event at Daytona is going to have a retired challenge race for you to do so. Go to "italiancarsatdaytona.com". The event is held on November 13th,14th and 15th and they are using the full "rolex" course including the "high" banks. Daytona is the hardest track to get on and this is an event you really don't want to miss if you can help it.

Will,

I'm pretty sure this is a Trofeo race. Same rules as Watkins Glen? I thought FCA was adopting the PCA rules for clue racing.

John, if you don't mind saying, which car did you buy? I just took delivery of a new '09 with an April invoice, came from Ferrari of Newport Beach.

I wonder how many drivers who ordered new '09 Challenge cars backed out ....

We had spoken to Lamborghini about bringing in their "Challenge" car the Super Trofeo, but one wasn't available. However they will be sending in a new LP550-2 Valentino Balboni for none other than Valentino Balboni to demo on the track.

Last year he went through the turn 4 speedtrap at 190 in a Superleggera.

Were you using the NASCAR section only getting these speeds? There is no way a Lamborghini street car could acheive those speeds otherwise as the Daytona Prototypes barely reach that speed but of course they use the infield road course and the back straight bus stop!

It was using the 24 Hr course. This was told to us by the Track VP who was in the car with Balboni at the time.

I can only assume he did not blow through the bus stop with the Track VP in the car, listening to the corner worker radios they were stunned at the lap times he was doing while going through the horseshoe in a full 4 wheel drift.

We're hoping to have a LP670 SV there for him as well. Lamborghini sent two SVs to Pocono for their other driver this year.

BTW there were a couple of DPs running last year, and probably will be again this year.

AHH HAA..then that was based on the Lamborghini's speedo an not some sort of timing mechanism. 190 is unobtainable in any street car using the bus stop but I sure am looking forward to seeing Balboni wring that car out at Daytona! Should be a fantastic event.

The track manager who was riding with Valentino got out of the car and his statement was "I didn't know a car with license plates could go that fast" Watching a Lambo in the hands of Valentino is like seeing the Mona Lisa. They are both phenominal works of art.

We just got word that Spyker will be returning with their factory driver, plus we got a registration for a Bugatti Veyron.

Another great safe race with no touching. Bravo to everyone who participated.

Can anyone post photos?

I'm looking for photos of my two cars, silver/red 360, and scuderia red/white stripe 430, both running # 31.

Thanks!

Btw: there will be a race in in Houston Texas at MSR hosted by Franco Valobra.

For those who would like to attend please let me know.
