Between a thread in modern and the moderator forum we've kicked around a new structure for the model specific category. Although it adds to the number of forums, the lines are much more logical and straight forward IMHO.

    Instead of current, how about...

    Model-Specific
    -Vintage
    -206/246
    -308/328/Mondial
    -348/355
    -365/400/412
    -BB/TR/M
    -456/550/575
    -360/430
    -612/599
    -Supercars

    What do you think?

That sounds a lot less complicated, i mean you can go straight to the section that interests you the most.

Just a quick observation.... 365BB and 512BB won't be in the same category?

We are considering the 365 BB a BB, but need to make that more clear. 365 GTC4/2+2 goes in 365.

I surf the forums anyway, though I've never set a cursor in the modern category. Though my primary focus is on the 308/328 cars, it's nice to keep up with the bigger/faster cars. The current structure works and the new structure looks workable. How you like that for fence sitting? Go for it, we'll adapt.

Boxers (plural) ought to suffice for 365 distinctions.

Mondial is tricky, as Mondial t shared same engine as 348, but, would be in good company with some of it's 2+2 brethren - debatable.

    - That said, though it's also a 2+2, 308gt4 has a descriptive enough term with 308/328.

First attempt to classify should be technology and time period. That's why I would put the Mondial in 308/328. The Mondial t is just one of those we'll have to flip a coin on. Either all Mondials together or Mondial t's with 348. IMHO I think all Mondials should be together.

Although we allow model specific tech talk in model specific, I think 75% of all tech talk (3.4 engines) would be in Tech Q&A.

Agreed on Boxers, disagree with lumping the Mondial in with the front V12s. They need to be with the rest of the mid-engined 8s

I like the way it is, but would not object to the change proposed. I may have to put a lot of 355 owners on the ignore list if I have to endure too much '348's suck' type of posts when lumped with the 348/355 group.
I will probably miss out on the TR threads if it is changed.

If you had reservations about adding a sub-forum for Maserati, doing this would be even worse IMHO. I think you should leave it as it is. I like reading through the various forums, so it's nice to just go into Vintage, Classic, Modern, Super, as opposed to having to go through every model.

The underlying issue is that early 'Modern' cars aren't anymore, and it offends certain people when it is suggested that the 355 is becoming a 'Classic'.

    Just an idea:

    Model-specific
    -Vintage
    -206/246/308/328/348/Mondial
    -355/360/430
    -Boxers/TR/M
    -365/400/412/456
    -550/575/612/599
    -Supers

Less forums, still a bit more interest-specific. -m

Since when is FChat politically correct? I suppose one way to look at this matter would be to look at the definition of modern:

    Main Entry: 1mod·ern
    Pronunciation: 'mä-d&rn, ÷'mä-d(&-)r&n
    Function: adjective
Etymology: Late Latin modernus, from Latin modo just now, from modus measure -- more at METE
1 a : of, relating to, or characteristic of the present or the immediate past

The 355 is not the immediate past, the 360 is. I say stick the 355 in the Classics section. That, or, perhaps theres another word that would better identify that grouping of cars. Regardless, the 355 is no longer a modern Ferrari.

I think we should keep the same format but shift the models. For example, send the F355 back into the Classic section.

    Rob -

Not to hijack, but the thing that always baffles me is whether a maintenance "issue" should be in the General Tech forum, or in Model Specific. If I have a Slow Down light in a 355, do I post in Modern or in Tech?

If we break down the forums into these more specific categories, does it make sense eliminate Tech (and roll tech questions into the model-specifics)?

I don't have any answers... just questions that roll through my feeble Diet Coke infused mind.
