About a month ago I took delivery of an 03 360 spider with tubi exhaust. I love the car but am slightly disapointed with the sound coming from the tubi. My last F-car was a 96 355 spider with as far as I know had a stock exhaust. My 355 had this very large growl that could be easily provoked by moderate throttle application that built to a banshee scream at very high rpm. The 360 with the tubi sounds pretty good at low rpm then the sound dies between 3-5000 rpms until it wakes up and shrieks nicely to redline. I love the addictive sound that emanates at higher rpm however I don't want to go that fast and endanger others, myself, and car in order to hear it. My question is: Is there anything that can be done to get the bypass valve to open earlier? I would like to have control of the sound preferably with my right foot as a constant scream would be fatiguing for extend periods. Could my system be defective? I have driven other 355 and 360s that have sounded like my 360. Why did my old 355 sound soooo good? If I can't rectify the situation, I'll probably sell the tubi and put something else on. All comments appreciated.

I believe that most Tubi's don't have the valves. Mine does not.

That engine should definitely growl and growls best when fully warmed up.

Maybe you should try changing your intake air filters to BMC.

Do you get more intake noise with a change in the air filters?

You shouldn't have bypass valves on a Tubi, that is the main reason IMO they are louder below 4000 RPM. If you do have them you can disconect them in about 10 min; there is a good thread here on f-chat that you should search for. As far as the airfilter question. I replaced my stock filters with K+N filters and it made the intake sound amazing. You can here the sound of the injectors spraying into the cylinders.

How do you tell if you have bypass valves. It sure sounds like I do because of the drastic change above about 4500 rpm in the sound quality and quantity? Also, are the K&N filters less restrictive than the BMC?

BMC is the superior product although US distribution is presently spotty but I have it on good word that situation will soon change.

Have attached a 355 valve which is very similar in appearance to a 360 valve. Notice the nipple on the right side. There would be a tube running upwards from these valves on either side of the engine compartment above and to the L & Right of the muffler.

Look at the left and right sides of the pipes from the muffler to tail the pipes from the engine view. This is where the valves would be. Of course, the valve you would be seeing is on the right side of the photo.

Go online and look at the EBay auctions for Ferrari 360. You will see stock exhaust systems for sale. Look at the pictures and it will be clear where the exhaust valves are located. Enjoy!

So does this mean I can put these valves on my Capristo exhaust and eliminate the horrific droning at low RPM/idle, but still have the screaming high RPM note?

If there are ones that fit, of course.
