Hi I looking for other Ferrari owners in North West Florida. I live and own a shop in Bay Co., Panama City Fl. My shop is Smith Motorworks Inc. I have a 97 355 spider , and a 1986 328gts (for sale in ads) I know there are a least a couple of F chaters in Bay co. but am curious how many more are out there. Or in surrounding counties. Lets say from Pensacola to Tallahassee areas. Maybe there is a way to search the site for this but i'm not sure how to do it. This does not have to be limmited to just F chaters. If you have a friend that has a F car list him or let him know what we are up to. So lets see how many we can come up with this way? I would also like to invite everyone to stop by my shop anytime to say hi , check out our cars , chat about thier car , etc. directions on our site: Smithmotorworks.com We work on some pretty cool stuff. - At the time of this post we will be finnishing a 1973 Daytona for a customer. If we can come up with enough interest I would be glad to have my shop sponser some kind of get together, or event. It would not have to be at my location . It could be a restaurant , or park ? We also have a Mustang Chassis dyno so maybe we can put together a Dyno day if anyone is interested! This is not ment to be a promotion of my shop just a invitation to unite other owners in our area that I would like to meet.
I am in Pace, just outside of Pensacola, with a 355. John Cawley has a 348 in Tallahassee. They have a group that gets together once a month (I think they are trying to make it 3rd Saturdays), Gulf Coast Exotics. David Fonvielle from Tallahassee has a 430 and 360CS. There are a few F cars in P'cola area, but I don't know the owners. We went to Tallahassee a couple weeks ago for their get-together, it was a lot of fun. Would be nice if we had a group over this way, as it is a long drive from here to Tallahassee and back. I believe John Cawley would be OK with me passing on his email, [email protected]. Let me know if you get anything going.
Phil...it was absolutely wonderful to have you with us the other weekend! I'd really like to find a mid-way place between PCB and Tally to get a panhandle group together. Find some little town in the middle of nowhere and pull into the town with 8-10 Ferraris and other sports cars...that would get thier attention! You can also pass my email around if you like: [email protected] One other thought. If someone has an FCA / FOC directory...I'm sure that not all FCA/FOC members are F-Chat members...
Greg, Is there a directory of owners? There was someone at David's with a 355 silver spider--anyone else in your area with an F car?
There are several F-cars in Tallahassee. My 308, John Cawley's 348, Tmobileguy's yellow 348, David's 430 & 360CS, a silver 355 Spyder, and another friends' 308GTS. One of the guys in our group just purchased a 330GTC. There's been a 550 and TR running around, but I don't know who owns them.
Great Start! there are a couple 308, 328's and a 430. Also a red Mondial (new to town?) all in P.C. sounds like there is enough to put something together! I will start trying to come up with some places and times. Anyones input would be great also. give me a call 850 769 9500 thanks Dave
Dave, Glad to hear someone is "local" to FWB. One reason I have balked at buying a f-car is availability to maint facilities. It's great to know there is someone close. Jim
Hey Dave, I would love to come down and check out your place sometime. Would it be possible for you to pm me if you ever have a 355 in stock? Im thinking that is what I really want as my next car but have never driven one. I drove a 348 and thought that was amazing. I just want to see a 355 gts or berlinetta in person and maybe drive one before I go selling my '69 Camaro and tuner Z06. Thanks, Jim
Great thread Dave, next time I'm over your way let me have a few of your cards to pass out to any Ferrari owners I meet.
I think I know just the place; Vernon, FL on hwy 79. Coming out of Tallahassee take 90 west (parallel to I-10) to Bonifay and then head south on 79. Though the first part looks straight as an arrow on the map it's actually a roller coaster ride. There are more curves just south of Vernon on the way to Ebro and Panama City Beach. I'll try to scope it out this weekend using this; http://www.pubcrawler.com/Template/dsp_restaurant_search_results.cfm/flat/State=FL/city=Vernon (wait a few seconds for the pop-up to disappear)
I would love to show up as well. I'd bring whichever car I have at the time, the 837hp Z06 or my pro-touring '69 Camaro. More than likely the vette since I only get 7mpg and have a 12 gal. fuel cell in the Camaro.
Vernon actually looks to be a good location considering those traveling from the Tallahassee, PCB, and Pensacola areas. Because it is quickly getting into the heat of the summer, I would propose (A) setting a date for sometime in mid-September for cooler weather and (B) picking a weekend where FSU is not playing at home. We'll be much more likely at getting the Tallahassee contingent out. Plus, that will give us all time to pool together a large group. Just my thoughts... P.S., any owners in the south AL / GA area that we know?
Sounds cool to me and hopefully I'll have my 328 by then. If it were ten years ago I'd say let's travel the Hwy 98 coastal road but the last of that is just about fully developed.
Let's vote for mid-October, I'll be on a cruise 1st week of October and dammit, I wanna be there! The temps will be perfect for a back-country cruise to Vernon. Hell, this could be a yearly journey!
Based on the odds and ends we might have to be pretty flexible http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/paststate.shtml http://seminoles.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/sched/fsu-m-footbl-sched.html
vernon has a winery. three oaks winery off rt 79. they have tours on saturdays . no picnic facilities though. there also is another winery in defuniak springs. the dog track is in ebro.
Hey Rick! I was going to send you the link to this thread. I'm glad you found it. How's the 308 running? This get-together in Vernon could be pretty good!
Greg: Let me know as soon as you plan this get together. A group of 4-6 of us from south Florida have been considering shipping our cars somewhere north for a weekend drive this fall, and north Florida is one of our considered locations. Maybe we can join you. Ron
It was a perfect day for a bike ride so I took the Buell out to Vernon to get a better look. Not much there at all (not even a traffic light) but it does have a gem of a little restaurant called KC's Pizza & Subs. Street parking, on both sides, are for about 6 or 7 cars total but it also has a large unpaved lot on the side for about 15 more. This could fit the bill as a place to meet (as opposed to an "event"), especially since most of the nicer restaurants in the Panhandle (waterfront, etc) are too crowded. Even if you're in the area for another reason it's worth stopping by for lunch. BTW, the Burnin' Vernon Burger is the best! I love spicy foods but this one almost caught me off guard Image Unavailable, Please Login
grego, all's good. taking it over to dave's shop this week for an a/c fix. scored a few pounds of r-12. hopefully just needs a charge. the get together is most good, just hate to wait till october. i'd like a monthly thing or a least quarterly. maybe tie in a f1 race. the vernon, defuniak springs, ebro area is very nice with a few nice roads, no traffic, twisty, dippy the central location is perfect for the whole panhandle and lower alabama. i suppose the get together is a done deal just needs a set date so i.ll see you on the agreed upon date. wade great pics. i may run up to check out the winery. will make a full report. has anyone gone to the dog races. that looks like fun. "think of them like little horses".. if they had monkeys for jockeys i'd be there every day.
