I recently was a successful bidder at a charity auction for the USO. The item bid for, contributed by Ferrari, was a certification of any Ferrari 20 years or older. The program is called Ferrari Classiche Certification. The idea is to make sure the car is original.

My 308 QV qualified. The local Ferrari dealer does the inspection and sends results, with photographs, to Italy. There any changes needed are noted, and new parts will either be supplied, made by the factory from some of the original molds they still have, or made by selected third party suppliers. When you are done, you get a certificate of authenticity from the Ferrari factory. Pretty neat.

I think mine is mostly original, but it will be interesting to see where I fall short. I will let you know how it develops.

Thats a great win, I inquired for my car and was quoted around 2500 euros to start the inspection and it goes up from there.

I was told the certification itself, not the inspection process that precedes it, is US$3,000. I mainly went ahead to support the charity involved. I think the program is an excellent idea for older classics that have significant value. It's a doubtful proposition for the lowly 308, although I am very fond of the car. We will see what I need to do to her, before I put any significant money into it. I had a rather thorough prepurchase inspection by the dealer and was told the car was original and in fine shape except for a water pump that needed replacement. Since then, a defective circuit board has been replaced. Otherwise, I think it's original, except for tires, a newer radio, and a special "radio receiver" that was installed by a prior owner that helps me keep under the speed limit.

    Tommy --

Yup. I was sitting at the back of the room. It went for a great cause. We also had the Mid-Atlantic Club do a special day at Walter Reed which I helped to organize. We had nearly 80, I say 80, cars show up for our soldiers there. The event was written up in Prancing Horse an issue or two ago.
